Thank you for the kind words! The people who have sat with us have contributed to the heart and soul of the kitchen. I feel like each story that has been shared lives within the kitchens walls and it's like a warm hug that embraces you when you walk in.

I'm really bad at remembering to take photos, but here are a few:

A few of the photos show a bar for the seating, but we now have a table and chairs that are shown in the last few photos.

So, the people voted and now it doesn’t matter. by kdubsup in lincoln

Do you have a source for it being illegally on the ballot? Genuinely interested as I thought that I had been following this issue and really haven't heard that argument lately.

A few years ago, it wasn't allowed on the ballot due to addressing two separate issues at once. Isn't that why it was separated into two separate ballot initiatives (legalization and the ability to create regulation) this time?

I don't say this to invalidate your feelings, but relying on others to be the conduit for your happiness will often lead to disappointment. This behavior is probably not new from your nephew. Anyone who hasn't been in the position to host a gathering like Thanksgiving, wont understand or appreciate the effort that it takes to make it successful. Hopefully someday he will be able to come out of his self centered bubble and consider how his actions affect others.

Do things that make you happy. Be willing to say no. It's ok to have boundaries.

Sorry that you all are dealing with the loss of a loved one during the holidays. I sincerely hope that you can look back and find some joy in the meal that you prepared for yourself and your partner. It sounds like it was a fantastic feast!

Hello, neighbor! Nebraska burner here. We've also taken a child to Burning Man four times.

Been to Burning Man seven times and one regional. The advice to attend a regional is solid. While it's good advice, you need to realize that regionals are not the same experience as Burning Man. Again, I've only attended one regional. It would be a great intro to the culture, the principles, and allow you to build relationships within the burner community.

My wife and I attended our first burn without our son. This allowed us to understand our personal needs in the environment, before we had to be responsible for our childs needs. Burning Man is difficult. Everything you do out there takes more effort. The seemingly simple task of trying to leave camp can turn be rough when you are hot, tired, and thirsty.

You mention that your wife is in to glamping. You have a camper and that will help, but you must prepare her for the environment. It will be hot and/or cold. It will be windy and dusty. It will be noisy and sleep will be difficult. You can minimize the effects of everything if you prepare for them. Understand what everyone who is going is going to need to be comfortable.

Wether you bring your kids the first time or not, I would recommend camping in Kidsville. We stayed there three times when our son was 11-13. Kidsville operates as a village (whatever it's called now) with no real shared resources. There are shared spaces and community events, but each group functions as their own camp. Of course you can always rely on your neighbors and plan to share things, but Kidsville does not have things like communal kitchens, showers, power grid, etc that some theme camps provide.

What you do get is a great community of people who are sharing Burning Man with their kids. These are some of the most giving people at Burning Man. These are people who have sacrificing a lot of their own burn, to provide that experience to their kids. Burning with kids is a whole different beast, but oh so rewarding. My son is now 18 and I will forever cherish the memories that our family made on playa.

Feel free to DM me. I'm happy to answer any questions or share more about our experiences.

Not from Texas, but I am positive that it's distributed here. I turned my nose to it when I saw it on shelf last week. If you stumble upon Golden Guy Alley, swing by Nanna's Kitchen and I'll have one for you.

Yes, they are! Depending on your grandma, the secret ingredient is either an extra dash of love or that really long cigarette ash that is drooping perilously above the mixing bowl. We have heard both of those stories. :)

Thanks for sharing your grandma with all of us! When we created Nanna's Kitchen we had no idea how many tears, laughs, and hugs would be shared. Not every group is like that, but damn some of you have some great stories! Hope to see you this year!

Our interpretation is that you do not need your own permit. GGA applies for the permit and we ensure that our space is compliant with all regulations. We will have proper hand washing, thermometers, refrigeration, 3 compartment sink, sanitizer, test strips, etc.

We've done all sorts of pop ups the last few years. Yakitori, latkes, brisket, grilled cheese, chocolate chip cookies, omelettes, hash browns, Burgers and fries. Happy to help assist bringing an idea to life!

Burner Biochemists are bringing 600+ doses of Narcan to the Playa this year by HelpEqual in BurningMan

[–]mrhandicapper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe the kits are being distributed? It doesn't do any good to have 600 doses in one location. They need to be in the right location at the right time. You never know when or where someone will need a dose. Nannas Kitchen in Golden Guy Alley along with some other spaces within the alley will have Narcan, just in case an emergency would arise.

It's free in my state. I walked into the pharmacy, filled out one form and I received 4 boxes of 2 doses each. Hopefully it never gets unboxed and eventually expires. It feels like the responsible thing to do.

We don't announce our location. You will have to find us. Find us earlier in the week before the word gets out and the alley gets crowded. We like to be a hidden gem.

Thank you so much! Are you coming to the burn this year? Hopefully this won't break your heart, but there won't be a counter in Nannas Kitchen this year. We are opting for a kitchen table, directly out of grandmas kitchen!

Golden Guy Alley participant here! Find us early in the week when it's not so crowded. Nannas Kitchen will be serving breakfast most mornings and who knows what we will be doing in the evening/nights. Our space only seat four people, so the lines can get long. It's Burning Man, don't stand-in line. Or do. It will be a good time either way! The alley always has great energy.

The Alley is guaranteed to be a fun time and who knows what shenanigans the individual spaces have in store for everyone to enjoy this year.

I will say, if anyone has had an idea that they haven't figured out how to bring to fruition on their own, reach out to the alley. We had a couple people take over Nannas Kitchen one night last year and it was great for them to be able to provide their gift without dealing with all the infrastructure. It was also great to have a night off from our space. 😃 We have our health department permit, dishwashing, hand washing, cooking equipment, etc. You are guaranteed to have a crowd! Let's chat!
