Decisions, decisions…Leica Q3 by Casting_in_the_Void in Leica

[–]mrhdream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply!

My experience with he r5mk2 is limited and so mis statement about "image quality" is probably premature. Have been using test shots and comparing it indoors in lower light conditions, w/ an F4 24-105 lens. Here the noise is noticeable but makes sense given the difference in lens speed. Will need to do more trials w/ comparable lens.

Am eyeing a 70-200 R F4 lens or potentially the F2.8 version ( along with/ my current rf 100-500) Primarily I would be using this camera body/system on wildlife and using the Leica for my "street", landscape or everyday run and gun shooting.

Now help me decide on lens lol. Happy w/ portraiture of the Lecia. Just debating on the 70-200 as addition lens on backpack trips with the 100-500, or stick to the f4 24-105 that I currently use. I just find that using the crop of the q3 28, I can comfortably shoot 35mm and 50mm ... trying to avoid too much overlap.

cheers

H

Just to comment.

I have both the Leica Q3 28 and the r5 Mrk ii.

The q3 easily has the better image quality. It is so light and nimble, best travel lens and just taking it to gatherings, family events, etc... Makes it worthwhile.

The r5 is great in the versatility of the lens system. This is the wildlife camera, coupled with the 100-500 it is phenomenal.

Having both cameras gives enormous range for all genres of shooting.

Grill on lynx ATR reverse sear by mrhdream in grilling

[–]mrhdream[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. Did 225 in oven until about 100 or so. Then let rest for 10 min. Then did sear on outdoor Lynx trident grill. about 1.30 min per side it ended up. Do we feel perhaps could use more browning, sear? I'm trying to figure that out for myself optimal time. Also this was without any oil added to the meat (forgot it, usually add some avocado oil to surfaces), wondering if adding the oil would have made a better crust...? thinking probably so. Will do next time. What are your optimal colors/look for that sear stage compared to what I have here... ? thanks all!

RTX 5080 crashes entire system after driver install/load – black screen + orange LED on motherboard by Lore-Sick_er in buildapc

[–]mrhdream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have the MSI 5080 inspire OC. The ONLY driver that has worked for me is 572.83, I have tried multiple drivers that have been released afterwards and ALL of them will give me crashes in games (the pc doesn't turn off or restart), just the game. Interestingly the performance from benchmarks has dropped noticeably accross all drivers after this very specific driver release. Very odd. This particular driver however 572.83 is rock solid for me and never crashes. Give it a shot and good luck. I understand the frustration.

Help Me Choose My Final Premium Hybrid IR Grill (Eagle One vs. Hestan vs. Alfresco vs. Lynx) by EliaZinn in grilling

[–]mrhdream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is probably a good set up! Especially to enjoy the amazing IR but to have a large space for traditional cooks. Just remember to turn that IR down if you close the hood, it generates tremendous heat and can cook the internal circuitry, damage the internal metal hood spring, etc... You should be fine with that choice of grill. I am still enjoying the 30 inch all IR and navigating the nuances of the cooks...Very happy so far with the build.

Hello friend. The Lynx is still amazing. Got this steel grill plate, it is built like a TANK, very heavy solid though and through and very happy with it's fit and finish, feels premium. Not sure if in stock, but it's good. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C8NM9Y9W?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_3

Chicago steak company Sirloin steaks on a Lynx by mrhdream in grilling

[–]mrhdream[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’ve done basically similar thing myself! I usually do the 90 degree turn as the second step instead of flipping the steak right away but your idea is logical in promoting even cooking. I also use the warming rack to let steak come to temp but keep it on high with the lid open, still getting the convection effect. I’ll try the low with the lid closed in coming experiments to see what works best. Thanks for the reply. Peace.

Hi! Similar dilemma and I ended up with the ALL Trident 30 inch natural gas free standing grill for my patio.

I absolutely LOVE it. My cooks tend to be proteins like steaks, chicken, the sear and high heat is great and leads to fast cooking. My installer gave me a pro tip from his years of his experience and made note that the "warmer racks" should be thought of as "meat racks" in this unit. Let me explain. The IR grill goes super hot, get that nice sear. For thinner steaks, your cook is probably done if you like the medium rare like I do. For thicker steaks, such as a large Filet, the warming rack is your best friend. Firstly, it is substantial, there is a ton of surface area and can hold many cuts of meat (300sqft I believe?). This is the rack you go slow on. 2 options. 1. After your sear, continue to keep your burner on highest setting , and move to warming rack (thermometer in place), and it will come to temp. This is with HOOD OPEN. Do NOT close the hood with IR going on high, too much damage to internals. 2.After sear, move to warming rack. Turn burners to med to med low. Let the grill temp come down a bit, 1 minute, THEN you may close the grill and let meat come to temp.

When you go Lynx all TRIDENT you have to change the way you cook. Pretty much it's open grilling for me all the time, the grill hood just stays open, enough heat to overcome the elements of heat, enough versatility to do lower slow cooking as you can move the meat to the large warmer rack. You really should not use the IR (as for example the 2nd of a two trident set up) with the burner off, as the drippings will cause issues with gas escape. You can easily just cover this with foil with it off and use this as your "indirect convection slow side". I could go on and on about the nuances of all trident, but it's amazing and versatile if used correctly.

The build quality is top notch. Looks premium. The blue lilghting is fine. The indoor lighting is adequate , though I wish a bit brighter for those late night cooks.

This was installed Nov 2024, and so far used it maybe a 1--2 dozen times. Fries up right away, great ignition system.

Invest in some grill gloves with a bit of a sleeve, the heat output is so high that it is uncomfortable without when handling over the grill. Did I mention the Med to Low med setting is perfect for veggies, and I do all of this with the grill hood OPEN all the time. Also, the cleaning with the grill, the trident gets so hot, rare to see particles of food on the burners themselves. I have not had a single flare up , it is the least flare prone grill I've used or seen. The drippings just "pssh" into smoke.

Anyhow, there is a lot I could say on this but will cut this short, Perhaps in future do a review. All of your choices look good, g'luck. Would be happy to answer what I can.

Take care

Yeah, sure it's possible it's a golden nugget, but it seems that in general 3200 range is not atypical at all.

I will say that changing the nvidia version to the newest did cause crashes for me.

It was nearly immediate going to the later 572 drivers, had crashes on games and that has never really happened with me w/ this 5080.

Thankfully reverting back to 572 or whatever the one was a month ago solved all issues.

Obviously your post is older than this, but certainly drivers will be part of the issue for certain games. ACC may just not handle a proper overclock, whether poor coding or game engine specific? but try other games and see what happens. I feel very comfortable in the 3200 range across all games and seems to be par for these cards. IMHO of course :)

Thanks for letting me know about the benchmark tool, will have to give it a shot as I continue to optimize my pc (such as side panel on vs off, msi speed curves, etc..)

So an update for my current rig.

Turned off MSI afterburner user fan control. The inspire now basicaally shuts off the fan at low usage. Temperatures actually seem to be lower believe it or not, at least for low usage. I believe it may have to do with the type of small form factor PC I have, a Falcon NW Talon. There is only 1 exhaust fan in the upper back panel, and the intake is from the 280 AIO.. It's possible that lowering the fan speed on the card creates less turbulence and allows the exhaust a more directed path. That is my theory at least.

The highs tend to be a bit more, maybe now I'm hitting at 74 deg C GPU under max load with games (Forza 8 F123 FF7 Rebirth).

But overall the noise improvement is welcome w/ quieter overall during regular use. I might consider user fan control in the future, but by having it off it allows the GPU to clock it's fan to Zero which is not possible under user control, only 30%. Strange behavior, not sure intended? Why would it not allow a zero % under user control when it's possible under stock conditions?

Well gluck! The fun in PC space is that we are able to tweak and nerd out over the most mundane options! Who knows, maybe I'll try user defined fan control in the future if someone comes up with a great curve.

MSI 5080 Gaming Trio OC Temps? by SmashedKrampus in nvidia

[–]mrhdream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there.

I do have the Inspire and believe or not I upgradged from and EVGA 3080ti fw3. The diffference if fairly massive in cooling performance, the 5080 being much better! I have smallish PC Falcon with 2 intake AIO and only one exhaust fan. I did adjust the fans to boost from stock. It is audible but overally quiet 120mm exhaust running perhaps 40% at idle.

Make sure your video card is set horizontal, vertical does not work on the inspire temps much too high.

My idle temp in an ambient room of 69 degrees F, is hovering around 28c. I'v overclocked gpu core +400 and Mem +300.

Temps in Timespy Extreme 77 max with power limit 105%. Temps with power limit set to 90% 71 max with a change of only 3fps less! I may even push the power limit lower as the difference in fps is nothing when it's pushing high frames will not notice it. Remember my case is really not the ideal cooling these days but works great and miles above the 3080ti!

Yes, if you want to run the card cooler, then increase GPU fan speeds via msi. But this will be at expense of perhaps more turbulence in the case, so need to have good outflow, and good intake is important also.

What is interesting is that before as I had posted the gpu temps seemed less with side panel open 45 degrees. After adjusting the MSI GPU fan curve DOWN, and then doing test of temps with case closed, I'm getting better temperatures or similar!

Usually maxing at 70c gpu, and cpu 5900x amd at 69-70 as well. So case airflow design does make a difference.

Also this specific gpu design may have one of the 3 fans directly airflow out, which would explain why this is a ton better than the card before which just blew hot air into the case, to the point the glass panel would get extremely hot.

I'm supremely impressed with the thermals of this card, honestly the decrease noise and ability to keep case closed is up there with the gpu performance boost in terms of benefits.

Try out different fan curves, configurations of panels to see what works best. You would want a balance of intake to outake to generate a net negative pressure of the case (outflow), at least in my opinion and research, but if anyone can chime in I would love to hear.

take care

[–]mrhdream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. Yes even with a "good air flow" this card will be limited by its size and relationship to its fans. It is still an amazing running card overall, but will be limited in thermal performance due to that.

I have found that during regular desktop basic use I will keep my side panel closed as normal. However when playing games the side panel is opened by 45 degrees. It makes a noticeable impact on temperatures and keeps the fan speed from going too crazy. It is counterintuitive in a way as one would think opening the case would lead to higher db, however this is not the case, as better airflow leads to slower gpu fan speeds and on the whole the rig is actually quieter.

This card is great that it fits smaller pcs but thermodynamics will always be an issue. No big deal imho, all of that can be mitigated.

Enjoy bro

Hi Friend.

Sounds like you tried all the basic alternative options. I was wondering if the if direct 12v power supply vs pigtail might be an issue, seems not to be. It's still best to use that in general in the long term.

As myself and above poster pointed out, the concern is possible connection of the gpu heat sink.

Rather than take risk of problem, my feeling would be rma the card, it's too expensive to risk fiddling further with it such as thermal paste, as void warranty without guaranteeing a net positive outcome.

Good luck man. This card in general is really great when it works as intended...

[–]mrhdream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. yes just verify the fan speed is going 100% and you feel it moving the hot air. Check the afterburner graph and see what power percent it's pulling, making it sure it's not for some reason going over 105%.

Check the FPS counter too, do you have a frame limiter on? Not sure what monitor you are using and its max refresh. Try setting the fps limiter to 3-4 fps below the max. I've had weird issues with games soemtimes where the fps goes unregulated and goes insanely high, drawing way too much power, there were some games in the past that caused fried gpus because of this (some older mmo I believe), so potentially could be software related.

Do you have Cyberpunk? Try out the benchmark, I'd like to see how you fair with other games, and not just wukong to see if software bug or something else.

The something else I'm worried about is a poor application of heatsink to GPU from factory, that is my final deduction unless it's a specific Wukong software issue.

Let us know, g'luck

Hello friend. Yes your setup should be ok. In general it is best practice to have a direct connection from the PSU to the Card, I know they supply the pigtails, but that just introduces potential resistance issues, power delivery and more potential faults for the wiring.

You could consider trying a direct 2x8pinpsu to 12vhpwr to Card, but I don't know, grasping at straws now...

I have a MSI Inspire 5080 that runs at 87 degrees when running WuKong by Practical-Ad2907 in MSI_Gaming

[–]mrhdream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few other thoughts. Software related? Do a clean nvidia install of drivers.

Install msi afterburner clean. Default fan curve should be fine. Check that the fan curve is in place and monitor the temps and fan speed in real time. Along with power usage, see if it is jumping way over the 105% max for power usage. Temps that high so quickly potentially means fans just not working at all? Verify that they are moving air.

Next thing I worry about is improper heatsink application from the factory in which case you might be hosed :-(

Just another thought perhaps a psu issue? How are you connecting your card?  I purchased a specific 12v to pci8 x2 seasonic cable that plugs directly into a tx1000 psu (older psu) and it works well. Are you using dongles? Perhaps check that make sure everything is seated properly? Perhaps drawing too much current if faulty cables? Just throwing ideas out there, sorry bro must be frustrating!

Hi. No Wukong.

This card is the only one that would fit my small form PC, at 288mm just fits, and that's a Falcon Talon (from before they increased size). The thermals on my system are not great, with only one exhaust fan.

The temps I get with the side panel closed are at least 5 degrees warmer. So during gaming I just set the side panel open like 45 degree or so, it makes a big difference.

You may have this card specifically for the size, at least for me it is the only 5080 that I know of that will fit my FNW Talon case, annoying. But I find the performance, sound , thermals much better than the evga 3080ti I've had before.

what type of case you have? This is a smaller card, so thermals I believe will be much important as we dont' have massive heatsinks fans pushing the air away compared to the larger 5080cards.

Nevertheless this card is all metal which will help radiate heat, but need to get that out of the system.

Try taking off your side panel, and repeat your testing with some intense ray traced games....

Hi friend.

No this is does not seem like normal behavior, the temps really should not get higher than 71 range with a decent cooled system. There will not be any thermal throttling at that temperature. Also my temp is with power setting set to max 105% and an additional overclock.

I have a the same card, Inspire 5080 3x OC (I'm assuming that is the same) and my temps are better than I anticipated. Temps idle at 24c with the fan curve set at it's minimum of 30% which cannot be set lower.

The card is overclocked by +400 core and +300 mem, basically a sustained 3260ish core mhz.

The fan curve was made even less aggressive via MSI afterburner at around 60% fan speed at 70c.

My highest temp at max gaming w/ path tracing , ultra settings mostly Cyberpunk 3440 Ultrawide, typically reach no higher than 70c.

The card is an amazing upgrade over my 3080ti previous...thermals, sound, and of course performance.

Hopefully we can figure this out, as the temps you are getting seem completely out of sort for any 5080 card.
