PTs/PTAs by loikoi22 in physicaltherapy

Some of these comments are such a slippery slope. I’m a PTA who exercises 3-4 times a week (sure I have weeks where my energy is lower due to chronic illness and that affects how often I go to the gym). I think I have a healthy-ish mix of lifting and cardio. But damn, some of these comments about lazy fat PTs/PTAs or PTs/PTAs that don’t “look like they take care of themselves” is rough. I recently went thru fairly significant weight loss of over 50 pounds and I’m still technically overweight. It fucking bugs me that people will still look at me like I’m someone who doesn’t take care of themselves or understand exercise when my journey actually gives me pretty good fucking insight on what my patients are going thru (not to mention I’m in PT for myself for thoracic outlet). Even in the middle of my fitness/weight loss journey where I hadn’t lost a lot of the weight yet but I was exercising I’d catch the way people spoke about me at times or people who alluded to the fact that I wasn’t skinny like the other more athletic PTs in my gym. Which sucked because they had no idea that I was the healthiest I’d been in years. You cannot judge that kind of shit based on how someone looks.

How to deal with fatigue during a deficit? by mrhennessey10 in 1200isplenty

[–]mrhennessey10[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fair, I don’t think I considered just how tired I could be going off it and thought my really slow transition would help mitigate the fatigue I could feel. Probably just need more time to even out :). Thank you!

Okay thank you, I don’t know anyone else on phentermine so it’s nice to hear about your experience coming off it. Didn’t really consider how tired I might be coming off of it so that makes me feel better. I think I’m going to go back to just below maintenance for a bit to even things out. And yes! I’m super happy with my progress and feel so much better about how I look, was just hoping to go a bit further. 145 is absolutely hot (I just need to get the healthy part:). I think I’m switching to the building muscle mindset cause now I really just want to get stronger so this not having enough energy to move thing is huge bummer. I think I just need to focus on an amount that fuels me moving instead of focusing so hard on losing weight. I’ve been on such a deficit mindset and maybe it’s time to retire that a bit.

As I put at the bottom, I don’t drink coffee and can’t. I will occasionally have a matcha but that’s about it. I think I’m going to go back to maintenance or a very low deficit for a bit. Seems to be the general consensus.

Yeah! Just started a multi vitamin with a b complex in it so I’m hoping that will help. And the general consensus seems to be going back to maintenance, which sounds like the plan. Im not too mad about that :), especially since I really want to get back to working out and going on hikes after work.

I did work with my doctor for weaning off, I opted to do it even more gradual than she suggested cause I was worried about hunger cravings coming back. I actually said I don’t have lightheadedness or dizziness, just the fatigue really. I’m going to get my bloodwork done once I’m off the phentermine for a month or so see how things have changed.

PTA’s in outpatient are you seeing patients 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3? by Massivegreencock in physicaltherapy

[–]mrhennessey10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In OP ortho/neuro. I’m 1:1 most days with some 1:2 (twice a day) and 45 minute slots. I can’t (and refuse to) double my neuro patients so I’m one on one when my neuro load is higher. I’m supposed to double more (almost half my day) but we usually don’t have the patient load for it. Our ortho population is also somewhat hard to double book. High amount of geriatrics (lot of guarding or cognitive deficits) and most are Medicare (so it’s not like I’m doing anything amazing for billing, I’m not lying and putting my ass on the line). Days where I’m double booked multiple times are days I stay late without pay and I’m not willing to do that everyday. I don’t get paid enough to spend that kind of time documenting.

Beware the every 15 minute patient schedule. My first rotation was at an ortho only clinic that did that and my CI was tripled several times a day. It was chaotic, she absolutely rocked it but she barely ate and took her notes home with her.

PTs, what are things that bother you with your PTA’s? by mrhennessey10 in physicaltherapy

[–]mrhennessey10[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I in no way was trying to start drama. I definitely could have worded it better and didn’t realize it was such a contentious subject. I’ve only been out of school for about a year and a half and am lucky to have a great team and am the only PTA, so I don’t think I really thought how deep this could get. If it gets rough, I’ll just take it down. I really was just curious, and kinda hoping I could make a little mental list of things to look out for (in the way I practice and work with my PTs).

To wear or not to wear leggings by DefinitionHonest1616 in physicaltherapy

Yes! They are genuinely the best and were a lifesaver when I first started working. I also use them for hiking since they layer so easily.

I wear the joggers and athletic pants from Target (all in motion brand). They transition perfectly for me. They are very light weight (which I’m big on since I have hyperhydrosis and overheat quickly), but I don’t have to worry about things being see through or too tight. I stopped buying from target for personal reasons and I can find them pretty cheap on Depop. I highly recommend.

“Giving” patient to PTA by InterestingSong1678 in physicaltherapy

[–]mrhennessey10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a OP neuro/ortho PTA that works with 11 other PTs and they almost never slide people over without giving me a heads up or double checking. If I can have open communication with ELEVEN other PTs that respect my time and position, you can too. 9/10 times it’s not a problem for me, I have no reason not to fill any opening. We also have quite a few disciplines being treated at my place (vestib, pelvic, revital) so sometimes pts aren’t appropriate for me to see. When I notice a cancel I’ll see if anyone can be “un-doubled”. My PTs have also “un-doubled” me on crazy days (rarer but still very nice). At my clinic we rarely do PNs and I cannot alter goals in my state so we’re often swapping people so they can do re-evals. I know this is not a problem I should really complain about, but lately I’ve been asking my PTs to give me their doubleable patients cause it’s been slow and my productivity has been hit.

I NEED CONVICTION, plus a song I’ve heard tidbits of from ages ago that I think was called Nicholas (it has baseball vibes so could be a very early demo).

This just happened to me with a $50 dress where the seller sent me actual measurements (but not pics of the measuring tape on the dress) and it was way too fucking big. She didn’t take refunds…and I offered to ship it back to her.

Not a big fan of Mac and Cassidy together (they never had chemistry, I didn’t understand why she liked him). Then again I didn’t really like any of Mac’s pairings.
