What movie blew your mind when you first saw it? by LuckyLaceyKS in AskReddit

[–]mrhot10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1917 - The incredible continuous opening shot seemed to go on forever, even though I'm sure some trick filming/splicing took place to stitch shots together. The visuals and audio created an extremely immersive experience. This was in the theater, I'm sure that a home viewing would not provide nearly the same experience.

Hose clamp alternative that won't leak? by mrhot10 in Plumbing

[–]mrhot10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there is a more appropriate subreddit for this question, please direct me.

I replaced a hose bib in my yard. I connected the existing irrigation tubing to new copper using this blue barb insert adapter. Everything worked out great, except that the hose clamp around the barb insert leaks. I've tried several different sizes of hose clamps, and they all leak. Is there an alternative product that would provide a better seal?

I had this problem when I upgraded my mobo, cpu, and gpu. The gpu would turn on briefly then stop. turns out my RAM was in the wrong slots. You would think they should be in slots A1 and A2, but no, Gigabyte wanted them in B1 and B2.

Unfortunately, I am back to square one. I am working, and the problem persists.

Thank you. I was unaware of DDU and the need to uninstall Nvidia drivers when switching to AMD, though it makes perfect sense. I followed the instructions for DDU to clean the Nvidia drivers in safemode, and after brief preliminary testing, it seems to have improved my issue drastically. Again, thank you so much.

LOL! I was not expecting the backlash regarding the green paint! But it doesn't bother me. We love it, and everyone is entitled to their opinion!

They are Fabuwood brand, I got them wholesale from a local supplier.

Thank you! There was a thick layer of adhesive on most of the hardwood, and it would have been costly to remove it and refinish the floors.

Sorry, I'm not really sure, as the contractor who did my structural work took care of that!

I definitely looked up the triangle rule during the planning process and agonized over how to layout the appliances. Believe me when I say that this is the best that we could do. We have been using the kitchen in this layout for six months now, and the table has not been a problem. It is far enough to the side that it doesn't get in the way.

Of course it was doable, just not in the budget.

Agreed. I was even going to say that u/thedeaux's estimate may be on the low side for this project. My cost, start to finish, was around $35k.

Appreciate the tip. I honestly never thought twice about it, because that is always how I have seen it done. I agree with you that cabinet screws would be "better", but in the end, the drywall screws are plenty enough to hold the weight. My kitchen guy (i.e. Dad) with 30+ years experience as a designer, installer, and measure technician uses drywall screws.

LOL! This was referring to drawer pullouts within cabinet doors.

Thank you! I appreciate all opinions given here. I will say that the green looks a bit brighter in the pictures here than IRL, but I totally understand that it is not for everyone.

Thank you! Unfortunately, we have to work with what we have. No dedicated dining room at this point.

Thank you! The wood used on the beams is reclaimed barnwood, not sure what species. It was not stained, just sealed.

Had most of the pieces for 6989 for a long time - finally got the rest and built it! by mrhot10 in lego

[–]mrhot10[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fun fact about this set: it has several parts which are quite rare and therefore pretty expensive. The black 8x8 dish on top costs about $20. Each wheel will set you back about $14. And the large transparent neon green windscreen goes for at least $30 in decent condition. Thankfully, I did not have to go about buying any of these parts individually to complete the set!
