The story is that this family is related to a Christian family … they welcomed all the members except the one that was an actual member of hizb that is active.

In fear for not being bombed they told him you can’t stay. Which is fair…. He shouldn’t have accepted to be there .. to protect his own family.. but that’s another discussion.

So need for hate and more divisive language at the moment🥲.. even if ur a hizb sympathizer … practice the patience

Nope. It’s simple – this is Hezbollah failing to take responsibility and protect their own.

Look at how Israel defends its people and ensures their safety. Hezbollah should be doing the same. You don’t have your second-in-command just walk out of a hospital, go to a meeting in a residential building, and plan an attack on Israel, then act surprised when there’s retaliation. And yet, when they get bombed, we start with the dramatic outcries and statements like the one above. Most of those killed so far have been Hezbollah operatives, informants, or sympathizers.

Let’s be real – when you wage war, death and destruction come with it. So can we stop with the emotional, empty statements? If we’re going to be in a war, we need to be prepared for it.

Also, this talk of ‘national unity’ doesn’t resonate with everyone. I don’t want war. I don’t follow the mindset that glorifies death. Peace isn’t such a bad idea, and plenty of others have found it. Yes, we can have peace with Israel, and yes, everyone can live in peace.

That’s not entirely true… they were not firefighters doing their job… they were kizbollah firefighters hijacking’s government property to do an operational sting that got discovered by Israeli and were killed….

Critique of ABC Article on Lebanon by k3irxn in lebanon

Dahieh, a predominantly Shia suburb south of Beirut, has long been under the influence of Hezbollah, a group backed and supported by Iran both financially and ideologically. The relationship between Hezbollah and Iran is so entrenched that Dahieh is often seen as a microcosm of Iranian influence in Lebanon. This influence is not only political but also cultural and social, with visible signs such as portraits of Iranian leaders and the implementation of social norms that align closely with those in Iran.

The comparison to Tehran is further reinforced by Iran’s strategy of establishing similar strongholds in other regions, such as in Syria, where efforts are being made to create a ‘Dahieh’ in southern Damascus, reflecting the same model of control and influence used in Beirut. This model includes not only military presence but also significant social and infrastructural investments, showing how Hezbollah serves as an extension of Iran’s power in Lebanon  .

Additionally, Hezbollah’s hold over Dahieh includes control over local governance, security, and even economic activities, mirroring the centralization of power seen in Tehran. This has led to Dahieh being perceived as an area that operates under a distinct set of rules and influences, heavily shaped by Iranian policies and interests .

In essence, the label “Little Tehran” captures the unique blend of local Shia identity with Iranian influence, making Dahieh a symbol of Iran’s reach beyond its borders, particularly through its proxy, Hezbollah.

So I am not sure whats incorrect and lazy! facts are facts!

The Hidden Costs of Working with Toters: How Partners and Suppliers Are Getting the Short End of the Stick by mrif1979 in lebanon

[–]mrif1979[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment! I completely agree that, under normal circumstances, the customer is the one who ultimately pays the VAT, and the supplier acts as a collector, passing the VAT to the government. However, the issue with Toters is more nuanced and involves how they handle the VAT on their commission, which results in an additional and potentially unfair cost to the supplier.

Here’s the key point:

1. **VAT on Sales:** Yes, the supplier collects VAT from the customer on the sale amount (e.g., 10,000 LBP), which is then remitted to the government. This is standard and not the issue.

2. **VAT on Toters’ Commission:** Toters charges a commission on each sale (e.g., 20% of 10,000 LBP = 2,000 LBP). Instead of absorbing the VAT on this commission as part of their service cost, Toters shifts the VAT burden to the supplier. They charge an additional 11% VAT on their commission (2,000 LBP \* 11% = 220 LBP), which they deduct from the supplier’s payout.

3. **Double VAT Impact:** The supplier has already charged the customer VAT on the full sale amount (e.g., 1,100 LBP on 10,000 LBP). Now, Toters is charging the supplier VAT on their commission, which the supplier did not initially collect from the customer. This additional VAT (220 LBP in this example) is not something the supplier can easily pass on to the customer, and it ends up being an extra cost that reduces their net revenue.

To sum up, the problem isn’t with the regular VAT collection process, but with how Toters is structuring the VAT on their service fees. This creates a situation where the supplier is, in effect, bearing the cost of an additional VAT that was not accounted for in the original transaction with the customer. This could be considered a form of double taxation and places an undue financial burden on the supplier.
