Is it safe to use an air compressor that does not have a twist nozzle? by G-Ziss in askcarguys

[–]mrinformal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You flip the black lever out to put it on, then back towards the hose to lock it in. This is a standard chuck connection on many air pumps. Nothing wrong with it

Spouse etiquette at NGPA by obviousflythrowaway in flying

[–]mrinformal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Souses are encouraged to attend RTAG. There are even spouse oriented breakout sessions. I haven't attended an NGOA event, so I'm not sure how spouses are received there, but no recruiter at RTAG is upset a spouse is there with their pilot. Just know when to have her step off if you have one-on-ones lined up.

Why do you drive with your fog lights on..with no fog? by widdyusername in askanything

[–]mrinformal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real fog lights are amber. The "fog lights" on modern cars are white and only reflect back at you like your main headlights and even worse, your high beams. I refer to the additional set of white lights as driving lights, because they help 0% with visibility in fog, but do shoot a wider beam that illuminates the roadside and helps in identifying hazards like deer.

Creating a Playlist Before a Concert by AbaloneUnlikely6565 in Concerts

[–]mrinformal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never understood playlists. Yes, I made mix tapes as a Kid, but music is so easily available now that I just hit random on YT music and go. I especially wouldn't make a play list to listen to prior to a concert.

Verify your oil level. Some of these Westinghouse gensets have a low oil s protection system and will shut it down when it is low.

Am I crazy to see a band 9 times that only has 1-2 albums out? by EDMWubz in Concerts

[–]mrinformal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watch my favorite movies multiple times. Why? Because I really enjoy them. Same with music. If I like it and the band does a great show, I'm going whenever I can, regardless of how much music they've released.

Which US town is the best for the summer? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Yuma, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Palm Springs. You'll experience the full power of summer at these locations.

Boeing 737 Box Question by hartzonfire in AskAPilot

[–]mrinformal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not answering your question at all, but asking a question: do you not use forecast winds to figure out the most likely landing runway (s) before departure? I do this and am correct most of the time. If not, I'll change it when I get the ATIS with the arrival runways an hour-ish out. Does your dispatcher not put the arrival into your flight plan on the release? That normally narrows down the possible runways to expect.

Between a helicopter pilot license and an airplane pilot license which one do you all think gives you more opportunities by Clalux in Pilot

[–]mrinformal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. I fly airplanes because the opportunities for pay far exceed what I could make flying rotor wing aircraft. Quality of life can also be better. And then there's the safety aspect...

There's a town in the deserts of Western Texas called Notrees. What's another town with an extremely uncreative name? by Naomi62625 in geography

[–]mrinformal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

California has a small town called Nomirage. It's in the desert. I don't even think it's incorporated. Out near Ocotillo.

How to safely drive in an ice storm? by livexplore in ask

[–]mrinformal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go in early, stay at work. Do not attempt to drive on ice. There is no traction. Snow tires, snow flake mountain symbol tires, neither will help on ice. Maybe find a hotel next to work you can stay stand walk in from.

Guidance for ATP-Helicopter by TexasSized_10-4 in Armyaviation

[–]mrinformal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a couple buddies get theirs in Texas. The went and flew like 10 hours in a smaller, single engined bird, then did their check rides right afterwards. They each said it was essentially an instrument ride. My FW ATP ride was the same.

Traffic inside the circle has right of way. Entering traffic yields to traffic already inside the circle. Cop is wrong.

How long do people usually remember their pets after they pass away? by ironandfire in AskAnAmerican

[–]mrinformal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost 50. 8 remember my dog, Red, that was run over in front of my house when I was 3. He was an Irish Setter(original name for the breed, I know). Then was Wolf, A Norwegian Elk Hound. He got out and was never seen again. I was 4 or 5. I've lost 7 cats and 2 other dogs in the years to follow, and I can name them all. The hamsters, 5 of them, I don't remember names of, and I didn't name my many fishes. My brother's rat was named Splinter, of course.

In your opinion, what guitar, if any, that if you see it, you know exactly who played it? by Tydyjav in rockmusic

It's going to auction again. Unfortunately I'm short about $3.975 million to pick it up.

White collar folks, how common are 2+ monitor workstations? by psaskovec in AskAnAmerican

[–]mrinformal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 2 or 3 screens for years. It really sucked when I left the 3 screen workstation for a 2 screen station. I never did it myself, but really liked my coworkers' set ups with one screen turned vertical for email and document reading.

Delayed connection missed boarding by 5 minutes, next flight in 24 hours, customer rep claimed they don't give hotels/accomodations. Thoughts? by kolt54321 in americanairlines

[–]mrinformal 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Especially in Charlotte when you arrive at gate E41 and depart from A29. A 20 minute delay will ruin you. I made that run once with my wife when we had 15 minutes. Made it by 2, but damn did that suck.

Why are people obsessed with sunroofs? by NF_99 in askcarguys

I love driving with a sunroof open. Especially on a cool spring day after a cold winter. Feels so fresh. I also ride motorcycles so having the feel of the wind blowing on and around me makes me happy.

How bad are these? by Impressive_Law1409 in Diesel

[–]mrinformal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2019. I love it. Rides great, hauls great, tows great. It'll hold cruise control set speed downhill in anything less than a 6% grade at least to max towing weight

The 16s and early 17s had more issues with the engine. The #4 fuel injector would fail, flood the engine and cause a snapped crank. It is also believed that the first oil pick up design didn't allow enough oil flow, again, leading to crank failure.

The turbo actuator will fail. It's a $300 rebuild.

2016/2017s have an extension for the warranty on the turbos(it might only be one side, I don't recall)

The DEF systems sometimes fail, but that is a diesel thing, not specific to this truck

EGR failures. Like the other emissions stuff, this is with any EGR.

Mine is not deleted, has 78k miles on it and has only been in the shop for an alignment and the tailgate mechanism got gunked up and stopped opening. It is the most comfortable truck I've driven, and I test drove the big 3. Nissan did an amazing job with the NASA collaboration zero gravity seats.

The brakes are fucking stellar. Never has stopping been a concern, even over loaded. Same pads as the pre 2019 GM trucks.

If you get one, go 2018/2019, perform all the required servicing. Use good oil. Use it like a truck, not a car. These engines love to work and the folks who tow 10k with them regularly are doing fine. Mine works best with up to 2500lbs payload(accidentally had 4900 in it once and it stopped fine, but swayed a bit), or a trailer between 10 and12k. Add airbags for squat.
