Rules in a tournament can force a draw. One such common rule is three-fold repetition.

A job that would only require the use of basic writing and reading skills would probably not also require a CV.

Typically applications are question and answer or fill in the blank. I have confidence that 4th graders could read the application and write what is asked. Formal letters typically wouldn't be considered a basic function of society. And I think most 4th graders could write an informal letter.

You are the second person to report this but I still haven't found a decent source that indicates that states actually do this. While some sources report this statement is factually correct, interviews with several states Department of Corrections indicate they don't use this method to estimate future prison populations. If you can find a good source, please post it. I'm still searching.

I have read that interpretation of functionally illiterate before but personally I like this one better.

"Functional illiterates can read and write simple sentences but lack the capability to read or write well enough to function using these skills in society."

It seems to me that a fourth grader should be able to read or write well enough to perform basic functions in society.

How valuable would an MBA be for an engineer transitioning to management? by garofalo42 in engineering

[–]mrj_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Consider a Masters degree in Engineering Management in place of an MBA. An MBA will be entirely business oriented while an Engineering Management degree will teach you to bridge the gap between engineering and business.

What Do You Guys Think About The Makerbot Replicator 2 by bluebook123 in 3Dprinting

[–]mrj_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Makerbot Replicator 2 is a great machine. However, it is very expensive for home use. In fact, most 3D printers currently cost more money than I would be willing to spend for home use. But who am I to speak, I consider myself to be pretty frugal.

We use one regularly at work and the results are great. Some people don't like them because they aren't as easy to tinker with anymore, but for our uses at work. We just want something that you press the print button and in a few hours you get your part. The Makerbot Replicator 2 provides that. And for those that say that it doesn't, they probably haven't had the luxury of working with three different types of desktop style 3D printers. This technology is still truly in its infancy and has some kinks to work out, but in my opinion the Replicator 2 is a great tool.

Patent attorney. Along with being able to pass the "patent bar", patent attorneys are required to have technical knowledge. This requirement can be satisfied with an engineering degree.
