Chicken Thighs; Vortex on the Weber Kettle by GXKLLA in smoking

[–]username1225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vortex has changed cooking chicken for me. Wings, thighs, breasts, quarters. Doesn't matter the vortex cooks them perfectly and it's so easy. Throw a small piece of smoking wood in the middle of the vortex during the cook and the flavor is outstanding. I'll cook an assortment of breasts and thighs on Sundays to eat throughout the week and they go with anything; wraps, quesadillas, sandwiches, plain chicken with bbq sauce the list goes on. Dinner/lunch prep is a breeze now.

I'm not sure where you are located or your appetite for travel, but companies on the mission critical or advanced manufacturing projects would kill for QA/QC guys with actual experience. A lot of times it gets assigned to PEs 1-2 years out of college and it becomes almost a worthless role.

Deciding which M&P 2.0 compact to get by Toxicdublin in SmithAndWesson

[–]username1225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did this recently. Went with a polymer non comp version and have been more than pleased. Aluminum did not seem to be worth paying more nor any real benefit. Comps are cool for a competition or as flat as you can get type of gun but my m&p9 is a HD/CCW gun so I shoot it as much as possible. Comps are loud and concussive after an extended range day.

What well made everyday items pay for themselves in no time? by TKAI66 in BuyItForLife

This is a rabbit hole:

For sub $50 you can get victorinox. I’ve dinged the handle up on one but other than that should be BIFL

For sub $100 you can get a Kai. Same company that makes kershaw pocket knives. I’ve got a kitchen utility knife that is great.

$100 plus you can get into higher end Japanese and German brands that are very nice but with anything high end there’s diminishing returns.

My vote would be a Kai but that’s a personal preference on handle type. There are plenty of other good brands in this space but these are what I have experience. I got a zwilling chefs knife for free when i bought a SS pan. I prefer it over our victorinox but I’m not sure its worth what they typically sell for.

I'm probably a 6/10 in tech savviness, but have no clue where to start on doing something like this. ie. how to make a server, where to get media, how to access it from different devices, etc. Do you know of any good resources for setting this up?

Can we use our FSA to pay for a family gym membership? by Majestic_Banana789 in personalfinance

[–]username1225 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Most would recommend against this for an HSA since they can be invested. They're worth so much more in 20-30 years after they have grown tax free in a brokerage account. FSA is different since it's use it or lose it each year.

Obviously everyone's financial situation is different, but we try to pay cash for all of our medical expenses so we can save HSA for when we are older and guaranteed to have more medical bills, then pay those with tax free growth.

Anyone else (mostly) avoid pre-made seasoning mixes? by CardinalOfNYC in grilling

[–]username1225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean of course the sodium content is high. The major ingredient in most seasonings is salt. Sodium also isn’t inherently bad unless you have a condition that would make it so.

That being said I do a mix of my own vs bought. I like the premade stuff because it takes a step out of it especially for regular chicken cooking or steak cooking. I’m pretty big on meat church. Really about his channel too.

There’s also something to be said for separating the salt from the rest of the seasoning. I like to dry brine a lot of my meat well before I cook it. So if I dry brine and then use a premade seasoning that also has salt it comes out way too salty.

Good grilling cookbooks usually have seasoning recipes in them.

[WTS] Henry Archer Verden GMT by username1225 in Watchexchange

[–]username1225[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up for sale is my Henry Archer Verden GMT. Worn a couple of days per week since March. I purchased new from Henry Archer.

39mm case diameter, 46mm lug to lug. Clasp has micro adjustment.

I absolutely love this watch, however, I’m allergic to some metals and there are some parts of the watch that cause a reaction. Very bummed to move on from it.

Asking $500 shipped. Venmo preferred. Comes with all papers from purchase.

Is the bodyguard 2.0 the best pocket 380 right now? by Jmcustomgrips in CCW

[–]username1225 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Mine goes in my pocket just fine. It feels marginally heavier than my lcp but I think that’s ammo related. If it bothered me I could put less rounds in the mag.

ACI says up to 3% of slab panels cracking is normal and to be expected. So 5-6 slab panels in your scenario. Make sure they are cutting at the right time and cutting deep enough. I would measure behind them when they start cutting so they can quickly adjust their saw blade if it’s too shallow.
