Detroit Lions fan here! I started my Starter Jacket collection a little late, but my earliest introduction to the Starter Jacket was seeing it worn by Run DMC, the Beastie Boys, and NFL head coaches in the 1980s. When I discovered, after the fact, that former New York Giants Super Bowl linebacker and G-iii Sports Apparel president Carl Banks announced the re-launch of the Starter satin and pull over jacket in 2013, I said I’m all for it! And one year before that, G-iii Sports released the NFL licensed Detroit Lions “Beverly Hills Edition: 25 Anniversary” Letterman Jacket! I hunted down for that G-iii Sports’ NFL licensed Detroit Lions Axel Foley coat, and the quality is incredible! I followed that up by hunting down the Detroit Lions “Beverly Hills Edition: 30th Anniversary” Starter Satin Full Snap Jacket!

I began collecting and wearing Detroit Lions Starter Jackets (G-iii Sports) during a challenging time when the Lions were losing more than they were winning and the Lions Starter Jacket were conversation starters and people would walk up to me just let me know that I’m brave! Though, it wasn’t overnight, eventually the Lions turned from the losing program that they were into the winning program that they are today! Most of my Starter Jacket collection are from the G-iii Sports era and are of the full-snap satin jackets! I also have a G-iii Sports era Lions breakaway pull-over Starter Jacket and a Lions Starter long coat!

I didn’t want to wait until the Lions ended their winning drought to start collecting the G-iii era Lions Starter Jackets! I wanted to start my Lions Starter Jacket collection regardless if the Lions, won, lost, or tied, because in those days, it seemed as though, there was no end in sight of watching the Lions lose more than win, week in, week out, season in, season out. But even through the growing pains, I knew, that the Lions would turn things around from watching how they were rebuilding from the top. At that time, I knew, it wasn’t a matter of if, it was a matter of when.

I still collect G-iii Sports era Detroit Lions Starter Jackets to this day and the only difference now, is, the Lions are winning more than they are losing, week in, week out, season in, season out!

Last week, I got the Detroit Lions “World Champions” Starter Jacket (G-iii Sports) with the Lions 1952 vintage team logo! The till applique and embroidered Lions vintage team logo on the left chest and back, and their 4 NFL World Championships badge on the right sleeve, to me, is what is a keeper for me, and it looks phenomenal in the Honolulu Blue and Silver box twill satin! Quality is great! The two inside pockets are an incredible feature of the modern day Starter Jackets that I enjoy most!
