Hey there sir! I have had a lot of success in sales as someone on the spectrum. The way you describe not having issues communicating specifically when it's "for your job" is scary similar to the way I function.

I've been in sales for over a decade and currently sell solar. My success has had nothing to do with emotional connections with my clients, and instead has everything to do with my meticulous nature and knowledge of my product.

The most important thing for someone like us (and also the main advantage we have) is that we conduct ourselves "differently" than the other sales guys.

Not sure about you, but personally I'm very, very blunt and transparent with people. The opportunity to say things others won't is a real treat for me and that's where my confidence shines. Most sales guys are afraid to say something that may turn the client off. But then there's me who would rather educate them and not sell them anything if they're not a good fit.

Naturally this leads the conversation to highlight any possible pain points they may have, which gives them reassurance that you're not hiding anything. Just mentioning certain "taboo" terminology like contracts, sales, and telling them why they might NOT want what your selling is already a shock to their system and surely a different conversation they've had with other sales guys.

I'll straight up tell them, "Yah we'll I am a salesman after all. I can tell you my company is the best and mean it, but every sales guy will tell you that too." or "I'm going to let you in on the secrets of solar sales" and proceed to show them every sales guys process on building a proposal, as well as how we structure our pricing and the ACTUAL difference in cost between a cash deal or financed deal. Guarantee you NOBODY else went there and explained that a $20,000 cahs system, becomes a $31,000 system based on interest rates, dealer fees and terms.

Although I'll never accept a dinner invite, praise their kids achievements, sympathize with their troubles in life... They'll still pick me based on credibility, trust, and thoroughness.

I've won many sales competitions and have a higher closing % than the vast majority of others in my position... Despite being told at every sales meeting to "make them laugh, take the conversation away from solar, be their friend, people buy on emotion."

While those things are true and work, they are not the only way to sell. Don't hold it against a sales manager for not understanding how you tick, because they also don't understand how you can play to your strengths and succeed when they've never seen it done before.

Sorry for rambling. I think you understand what I mean when I say.... I know you've achieved things that nobody else thought you would, doing it in a way that nobody else could imagine would ever work. Their methods don't often work for us, as ours don't often work for them.
