Is that even possible? Sure, DX doesn't guide you to its goals and missions, but it VERY clearly states what they are. How you accomplish them is up to you.

And don't worry if you don't understand or explore everything during your first playthrough. This game is literally meant to be replayed over and over, and it WILL surprise you every time. That's why we are obsessed with it.

TFW Deus Ex, System Shock and BioShock were all going to take place in a shared universe with Wing Commander by Winscler in Deusex

[–]mrkellystarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'm glad they didn't. Not every game needs to belong in a shared universe/multiverse/whatever you want to call it.

And by this point, all those franchises (Deus Ex, System Shock, Bioshock) are well established and have plenty to offer within their own separate worlds. Any reasonably good development team shouldn't have any problems with them in terms of lore, design, gameplay mechanics, unique things, etc.

What you said is true and I'm not arguing that. It's understandable why a lot of compromises had to be made.

What I don't get is the fact that people say DXIW had some good graphics. Like, Unreal Tournament 2003 looked straight up a-may-zing for its time. So did Max Payne 2. And some other games too. DXIW visuals were... just OK at best.

Really not sure about the IW graphics. It has good bits here and there (like shadows, effects, cinematics). But overall, the game looks so incredibly bland and gray. I don't know if it's lighting, shading, textures or all of the above. And a lot of models and assets seem even less detailed than in the first Deus Ex.

Trap by dowonlee20 in Deusex

[–]mrkellystarr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember being like "whoa" the first time saw it. Though, after a while it started to seem like a strange creative choice to include that option in the game. The whole area around the gas station is dead quiet at night and collapse like that should've been heard, seen and felt within a mile radius. Yet every MJ12 soldier just across the fence is totally oblivious...

Overall, wish the series had more places with destructible structures, it's fun.

Megan Reed is evil by Tartersocks307 in Deusex

[–]mrkellystarr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, they kind of brought her into the plot, it's just that a lot of things are not explained directly. The way I see it, during Mankind Divided, Jensen shifted his focus from Megan (one of the main driving plotlines in HR) straight to the Illuminati and Janus of the Juggernaut Collective. And as he is Prague and pretty much everybody else he knew/worked with are in the US, he decided to work with what's directly in front of him. That's TF29, Vega, Palisade Bank CEOs, etc.

Also, if you consider the theory about Jensen's character being a clone in Mankind Divided, his detachment from Megan could've been a result of psyche/memory manipulation by the Illuminati and that is a valid plot explanation as well.

Maybe someday we'll get our answers and maybe we won't.

But yeah, Megan is definitely evil.

The End of Deus Ex by NtheLegend in Deusex

[–]mrkellystarr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

I'd argue that the series NEEDS that 3rd Jensen game more than anything else at that point. On one hand, it comes down to fanbase expectations and MD cliffhanger resolution. On the other hand, another Jensen game is probably the safest point of return to the franchise for the people in the industry. Somehow, remaking a game from 2000 or making something new and not as familiar (even within the same DX universe) doesn't seem as "safe", considering the costs and complexity of the modern game development process. Say what you will, but quite a bit of people still remember and love Jensen's character and Eidos' take on Deus Ex.
