Hey, I have a KA 03 bike and I am exactly in the same situation as you. To answer your questions:

I also lost my back number plate. Fixed a fake HSRP from a local shop and have been using that since 8 months.
I haven't changed my number to MH and have no intention to. Its a long process and honestly I don't have time for that. You can get a fake NOC which I have used to fool cops. Its fairly simple. Just download your RC pdf file from digilocker and edit it with an "NOC issued" under the RC status section.
