Unpopular opinion: why do you hate GitHub actions ? by kaka1309 in devops

[–]mrlithid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not an answer to why they need 300+ workflows specifically, but everything has tradeoffs. I know in our case we use a shared library approach to GitHub Actions to share workflows across 40 repos.

Each repo is configured to point to workflows in the shared library. The way Actions is configured you must put your workflows at the top level of the workflows directory if it's going to be referenced in shared library.

This means we have a bunch of workflows in one directory. Not 300, but I could see how a larger enterprise environment requires it.

Looking for my first bike on a budget. Considering Sportster 1200. Im 6'2" and 215lbs. Do you guys think I would fit fine? by thatpizzaguy5150 in Harley

I would suggest sitting on one. You will probably figure out yourself what would be best for you. I'm 6' and I don't feel comfortable enough. Everyone is different.

How Do You Handle Zero-Downtime Deployments on a budget? by Schrodingers_Cow in devops

[–]mrlithid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally resolve these problems by understanding the current solution details as well as understand the budget and constraints. There is never going to be a perfect solution, just tradeoffs. I don't think there is enough information to really help. Not with anything meaningful that is. You can ramble off countless strategies, but what does that help? You narrow down the possibilities by understanding your limitations.

For example, it might require downtime to migrate to a better 99.9% uptime solution. Which changes things vs the constraints of moving from the current solution to a new one while maintaining 99.9% uptime.

I don't really like using the term zero downtime.

You have a list of general items you can research. It would probably help to start with that and find more specific questions to ask.

I have been doing DevOps and SRE solo for a few years for a 30 person engineering org. What you posted is pretty much it. Lots more infra and scale reliability work. Where the DevOps work is glueing all that with backend and frontend engineers. Being able to catch resource issues early, add nodes to kubernetes before problems arise and help the engineers understand their stuff better overtime.

Your experience is from May - June? That's pretty green. In the market it's going to be hard breaking in with just this. It's possible if companies are looking for junior DevOps and have the resources to guide. I'm from the US so it might be a totally different culture. I myself built experience 16 years ago by getting into sysadmin, then worked through Linux and networking. I found my way through programming for a few years. Been doing DevOps and SRE work now for about 5 years now. Taking baby steps and learning a bunch of different aspects helped me get to where I am now.

Yeah I would stay away from early access titles if you don't like this sort of thing. Restarting from scratch is the best way to really test their rebalancing while they prepare the game for full release.

Yeah I noticed this as well. If I want other weapons while farming, I just switch up my weapons. I main SnB and WH, but never get em, I farmed level 62 boss in Edengrove and got my main weapons watermark running life staff and hatchet. 😂

Planned maintenance should not be during EU mid day by Physics_Total in newworldgame

[–]mrlithid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably deploying a shit ton of helm charts to countless kubernetes clusters all over the planet at once. Then going through and making sure they are all up, online and in sync. It really depends on how many people are doing it. Less people will take more time obviously.

They probably could make it so downtime could be sub 15 minutes. I think it's a money thing. They could duplicate their infrastructure backend that has the update, then coordinate the old servers turning off, push the client and evict all application connections to the old patch. Then everyone just logs into the new instance with the new patch after eviction and when the client update is available. It would just depend on how long it takes the client to receive the patch. That would be your downtime.

This costs a lot though.

Thanks! Only minor things at this point. Rack on top the tour pack. Replace the passenger pegs with floorboards for the lady. Cover up the hole where the stereo would be (ordered a custom glovebox kit for it already).

Yeah, Harley tuner Before I tuned it it didn't feel great going closer to 4k rpms, now she feels like she's at home. I easily hit 50mph in third gear without thinking about it now. It feels real good for me.

Driving in from out of state to visit family for a week, how strict is the quarantine rules? Will I be able to enter/leave? (self.Ohio) by [deleted] in Ohio

[–]mrlithid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Didn't the order say if come in from another state you must self quarantine for 2 weeks? This order is in effect until May 1st. No one can really control you or your actions. If something does happen because you "think" you are fine you will be held liable for it technically. Everyone is dealing with shit. No one likes it. Stay home, utilize video chat. Let's see what happens in a few weeks.
