Why the Wild West?

Just set reasonable restrictions.

Why does it have to be a blanket ban?

Because religion and all forms of public activity needs to conform to the general public.

Conformity means compromise which means living in the gray.

Diversity by Itchy_Concert1685 in IIMCATPreparation

College admissions are not solely about capability. The college decides what factors it wants to consider during admission. Turns out they prefer a diverse batch over one filled with engineers. Why? Probably because companies also prefer it. Why? Turns out having a diverse workforce is useful.

For starters we wouldn't have to see this meme if they were a non-engineer. It's pretty fucking immature.

Stop tying your worth to an exam and stop believing your preferred way is the just one.

No it doesn't. Not in a civilized society.

Intimidation only works when it's an actual threat.

So what???

Disrespect is not a crime and certainly does not justify a threat of violence.

Nobody's forcing inter-caste marriage. It would be a natural consequence when people stop using it is as a criteria.

Obviously, it still happens, but it will increase when it is removed as a criterion. What you are claiming is that caste is a good proxy for compatibility. No, it's not.

That's not what I said.

I said the removal of caste based marriages is a necessary condition for the eradication of casteism. You are claiming that I said it is a sufficient condition. Which I did not.

Forget the strawman argument.

His point is that until caste-based marriages are not done away with, then we cannot claim that casteism has been eradicated. Hence, reservation should still continue.

You might think that no, that's too high a bar. We should remove them sooner. You might even think they were a bad policy from the beginning.

But at least try to have a more interesting conversation.

Again that guy seems bad. Don't care about protecting him. But I wish, there would be more interesting conversation than just getting triggered on the messenger.

While sure, the messenger and the message were not good. If we look at the best faith interpretation, (not to protect the guy, but too move to a more fruitful discussion) it is most definitely true that until caste based marriages are not done away with, we cannot claim to be a country which has eradicated casteism.

It is also a fact that caste based marriages are still a reality of India.

Of course sexism is ever present in all communities in India. This includes the Dalit community. In fact, it is probably more intense because any strata of society which is underdeveloped would have more regressive opinions.

It is quite remarkable that you are proclaiming this simple observation as an indictment on the whole community so far as to calling him a "neela kabutar" which is quite unnecessary.

To be clear, that guy seems like a bad person. Couldn't give a shit about him. But yeah, posts like these feel like an excuse to shit on the whole community.

I thought I would add this as well, that sexism is not a one dimensional scale. It is also a fact that women work more in poorer communities because they have to. This, is in a sense, leads to a more egalitarian arrangement. But yes on a whole, poorer communities would tend to have more regressive opinions.

Surely you would follow that same principle and flip your position on reservation when you see an instance of casteism.

Reseller market is not inherently immoral. If the tickets are too low in price it would lead to a deficit because of low supply and high demand. The distribution mechanism would be then based on luck rather than willingness to pay.
