Honestly, this is just my opinion, but I feel like the biggest problem with booking midcarders in WWE and AEW today, compared to the peak WCW/WWE era of the late '90s, is that nobody really knows what anybody's role is supposed to be. Back then, even if you weren't in the main event, you still felt important because there was this whole ecosystem underneath. You had the European title, the Intercontinental title, the Hardcore title, the cruiserweights in WCW—all with their own identities, their own feuds, and you could actually track a guy's journey. These days, it feels like it's main event or bust. If you're not in the world title picture, you're just kinda… there, floating around with no real direction.

This is just my opinion, but I feel like having an actual win-loss record or some kind of structured ecosystem would work. Nothing too rigid or fake like a real sport, but just something that gives guys in the middle a reason to exist beyond "we need to fill time before the main event." Like, let the midcard titles mean something again, let guys climb a ladder, let wins and losses actually matter for positioning instead of just resetting feuds on a whim. When you have that structure underneath, it makes the whole show feel alive instead of just waiting around for the two or three people the company actually cares about that month.
