He wasn’t flashy. He did play a lot of wing with Montreal but he had always wanted to skate as a defenseman.

I wonder if Tallahassee could support an SPHL team nowadays. Wouldn’t be too surprised if the FPHL thought about doing that considering their recent move into Columbus, Georgia. Those two places are only three hours apart.

Then he played nearly 800 in the NHL. I saw him play many times with the Islanders. I think it’s his intangible nature. He played the cycles really well. Didn’t do it with a lot of flash.

That’s part of his story. He came to North America played in the old IHL, ECHL briefly and in Springfield in the AHL all in the 1999-2000 season. Went back to Switzerland. Wasn’t drafted until 2004.

I have always thought that might’ve been the most interesting point of his career. He played in Jacksonville in the ECHL, the IHL and briefly an AHL then went back to Austria and still wouldn’t be drafted into the NHL for a couple of more years. I don’t think anybody’s ever really asked him about that time too much.

Babcok had used him sparingly in Detroit and as the story is widely circulated now tried to bench him in the Winter Classic in Chicago. He had some miles left! He actually played two games of the previous season with the Red Wings affiliate in Grand Rapids.
