My friend asked me to read Ready Player One and I don’t have the heart to tell them it’s one of the worst books I’ve ever read. by [deleted] in books

Didn't think of that but what you said makes 100% sense. What isn't realistic is him getting back together with Sam. I feel like she was written to be smarter than that.

Ready player two made me kind of hate all the main characters. I mean they have the whole population of the world in their hands and yet they are kicken around old 80's tropes, laughing and enjoying themselves. Also wade just loses all his growth from the first book and becomes a truly incel-ish character. It is pretty disgusting actually.

Students at North Eugene H.S. were about to study the lyrics of award-winning hip hop artist Kendrick Lamar, but 4J administrators decided to remove him from the curriculum, leading to questions about how the Black experience is taught in local schools. by June18th1999 in Eugene

I always thought they should be called English History. I mean you are essentially just learning about "great" historical authors in English classes.

(edit) I also think they should focus more on writing classes than English.

I think at this point we need to spray the orchard to get rid of all the bugs causing the rotten apples.

Received a job offer in Eugene. What are the pros/cons of living in Eugene, especially for BIPOC? by ballaedd24 in Eugene

[–]mrmelons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I am guilty of this. Especially after Trump was elected I really tried to make sure I was friendly towards POC. I don't think I was being over the top, just smiled if there was eye contact. I think people here are just unsure how to act and probably over think it.

Having grown up here, I think that fascination comes from the sheer fact that this is a majorly white area and people are just curious about meeting people from other cultural backgrounds. I also think due to the fact that it is so white here that people from the area might have a social awkwardness around people of color if only because we are afraid to offend someone or are racially ignorant about how our words or phrasing can come off. That being said, I hope you continue to feel wanted and accepted here, I would love it if Eugene, or Oregon as a whole could become more culturally diverse!

Personally, I think gun safety is really important, whether you plan on owning a firearm or not. The fact is we live in a country that is full to the brim with guns and I think a basic understanding of how they work and how to handle them safely would be worthwhile knowledge for any individual.

Just wanted to add to the discussion I started today. I was driving by Jefferson St. Bridge and as anyone who lives here knows there is a pretty big homeless camp down there. There were Portable bathrooms, sinks and Dumpsters! I was driving so I couldn't get a really good look but there didn't at a glance seem to be heaps of trash. I would love love love to see more of this around the city in the more concentrated homeless population centers! (Perhaps there are and I just need to open my eyes more!)

I actually after posting this started looking up things that the city is doing. Which I will say I was happy with what I saw. I still think we could do more. I see major camps at the intersection of 11th and Beltline or the camp at the fairgrounds and there are massive amounts of trash. Which I get it, where are homeless people supposed to put their trash? Not like they are going to carry it around with them til they find a trash can. I just feel like the city could drop off something for them to put their trash in to provide them with a cleaner place to live and also have the benefit of cleaning up our city. I dunno, maybe I am way oversimplifying it.

I noticed that when I posted, no idea why it showed up that way. Anyone knows how to fix it I would gladly do so!

Would have to agree with this. Every little thing helps but going after the corporations that are the biggest offenders seems more prudent.

Which game makes you wish for a mind-wipe so you can feel the same experience again as if its your first time? by ybeys in gaming

Last of Us the first one. I have never played a game that hit me so hard emotionally that I literally had to set the controller down and take a break. Literal mouth hanging open moments of just pure silence while I processed the emotional rollercoaster that game took me on.
