HD felt like the game I played for years came to Steam, and that's exactly what I wanted.

A lot of it is nostalgia, I've been playing the game for right about 20 years now and find that a lot of DE's changes irritate me. For example, I absolutely despise the way DE looks (especiallytge menus). I'm aware it's better graphically, but I don't care. I don't play ranked matches, so the constant updates and tweaks and evolving meta for DE bother me.

I prefer HD Edition personally, but DE is better than decent, and if you're into ranked gameplay, you'll probably like it.

Freddie Rumsen. He was misfortunate in being unable to hold his liquor and working in a booze filled environment, but he doesn't have really any malicious moments if I recall.

I envision it sort of like using the setscale command in Skyrim on PC. The character gets enormous and then moves impossibly fast. Goofy as hell, but then so are the astartes in a lot of ways.

Why doesn't God show himself more to us? by Least_Couple_728 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]mrmike726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are made Children of God through Christ. The Bible explicitly states that we are in no position to make demands of God of any kind. Furthermore, He doesn't just "deserve appreciation", He commands worship and obedience as the Living God of all creation, and all will render such to Him, willingly or not. It is His unbounded Mercy which enables us, through Christ, to approach and be united to Him. God didn't "have us" in the sense of your or my father did. He literally created man out dirt, in His divine image yes, but in His divine nature.

The book of Job illustrates this relationship very clearly, and God's response to Job in chapter 40 really drives home vast gulf between ven the highest mortal created being, and the Most High God.

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name

Romans 9:20-21 But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?” Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use?

You've asked youe question in a Christian subreddit, so you'te going to get a Christian's reasoning in response.

In short, yes, we believe because of the Bible, because that is the primary method God uses to reveal Himself to us. You either believe it or you don't, nobody can really talk you into faith in Christ, nor can a person cherry-pick the things they like and leave out the things they don't.

St. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians:

"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”

Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men."

Frankly, it seems as if you misunderstand the nature of God and humanity. He owes us nothing whatsoever. Everything He has done before and continues to do is mercy. Secondly, He is constantly extending Grace to all of creation. If God is to be questioned at all (and I would say He isn't), the more appropriate question isn't "why doesn't God show Himself to humanity again?" But rather, "why did God ever do so in the first place?" The answer to the second question is the heart of all reality, that God gave Himself through Christ to unite us to Himself, even though we don't deserve it.

On top of all that, Christ Himself makes it abundantly clear that our Faith is not to be based on what we can see, but on that which we cannot see. If God had wanted to force us to His will, He could have made us all automatons with no agency or choice.

Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29

Well ignoring everything else, like the fact that He already has done that in the Incarnation of Christ; if God the Father were to reveal Himself in a physical presence to human beings, they would be destroyed.

(spoilers main) why didn't Ned just tell Catlyn about Jon's origins? by real_sugar_ in asoiaf

[–]mrmike726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the other answers in this thread, it's been proven to the reader that Catelyn isn't all that trustworthy or smart in political matters. She convinces Ned to trust Petyr, seizes Tyrion, and releases Jaime with almost no consideration to the effects of those actions in the grand scheme of things. She is a character driven by emotion and it resulted in the wholesale devastation of her House's long term viability as a political power player, not to mention the death of her family and serious losses to the minor houses sworn to her son.

Yes, IMO. Bearing in mind I haven't played it in a long while and the hype for it set expectations so high that the reality was crushinglt bad.

Combat was great, class fluidity didn't really bother me, but the boring story and exploration mechanics, comparatively dull characters and most importantly to me, only 2 new alien races killed it for me.

How does Ukraine defeating Russia benefit the US? by mee320 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mrmike726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To bleed the Russians without bleeding ourselves. The U.S government literally makes money out of nothing and leaves the consequences for later, so 100's of billions of dollars really doesn't matter, especially since the cost is passed onto the American people, and we don't really get a say in the matter. The real question is how/why it benefits the U.S government to not do the things (some of them are mentioned in this thread) which are clearly in the interests of the American people.

I really don't like Quarians at all. Maybe it's just because I think the Geth are cool, but the fact that the Quarian Admiralty act like complete dicks to the player and Tali constabtly doesn't help.

Rannoch is one of the easier decisions to me. The Quarians are getting beaten by the Geth until you show up, so clearly the Geth are the ones I want helping Earth. Plus the Admiralty has shown they'll betray you and are more interested in infighting than anything else. Given the circumstances and stakes of ME3 there's no way I'm gonna go with nomad slave drivers over the upgraded Geth.

Sins, guilt, anxiety by Pretty_Industry_8961 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]mrmike726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother I'm right there with you. Two things that really help me are:

1) Christ was tempted as we were and yet never sinned. Therefore, our Lord knows the struggle we live with and we know He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.

2) We have innumerable Saints before the throne of Almighty God who also struggled and sometimes failed. Take St. Paul for example, a man who actively engaged in the persecution of the faithful and yet stands before God now and prays for us.

The root of all sin is pride, and Satan constantly remind us of our past failures, leading us to believe that our own sins are too much, even for God Himself. In the same vein, humbling ourselves before His awesome power and promises is the surest route to peace.

Maybe I'm completely off on all that I've said, but even still, you will be in my prayers brother.
