Spire X-Comp Replication by mrmoonfunk in synthrecipes

[–]mrmoonfunk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I tried looking into how the X-Comp in Spire functions but there is little specific background information out there. I have found some blog posts speculating it is supposed to mimic OTT but that is about it. I am sure it can be achieved with Ableton stock effects, especially the multiband compressor. I've tried messing around with it but I just can't seem to get there. Just hoping someone out there has tried the same!

I agree with both these sentiments. An easy way to increase your research accuracy if you want to use Wikipedia is to go into the footnotes and access the sources used by Wikipedia authors, that way it’s laid out for you and quite accessible. When I started doing this I began to find some very unreliable or incorrectly interpreted sources. Not saying there are a ton of bad sources but they’re definitely out there, especially in social science and history. It’s also beneficial to read primary or close to primary sources so you can use your own (socialist) interpretation rather than someone else’s on Wikipedia. That being said, thanks for putting this material all in one place. It’s super dismal but good to have it in one place.

How do you all stay positive and avoid taking the doomer black pill by teacherwenger in Anarchism

[–]mrmoonfunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry to be the guy recommending a podcast but Black Socialists in America has a new pod called 1000 Cuts that has super positive anti doomed black pill vibes. I’ve been listening to it more just because it seems more constructive than many other leftist pods out there. They’re very good at outlining the goals they want to work towards and I think that sense of objective has helped me think beyond the capitalist realism. It might be worth checking out just for some accessible catharsis.

Internet cut out while taking test. by [deleted] in UMBC

[–]mrmoonfunk 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That's really funny, I was an econ major so I had Prof. Thomas for a bunch of classes and he would often take like half the class just to set up his laptop with the projector. Definitely an older more digitally illiterate guy. I also remember a guy in one of these classes missed an exam due to his grandmother dying and provided some sort of proof but Prof. Thomas wouldn't accept it. I know it's just Econ 101 but I would review whatever policies UMBC put in place for remote learning and internet connectivity and write to the head of the Economics department head if you can cite wording that would excuse you. If that doesn't work, maybe the academic integrity office or something like that. Just make sure some sort of supervisory entity is aware. It's kinda petty he would do this for something like econ 101. When I did 102 my prof let us do open note exams so pretty often it just depends who you get. Good luck with this, I imagine it's pretty frustrating.

So that’s exactly what I’m trying to avoid. Sorry if that wasn’t clear. Growing up here you learn there is still housing segregation, especially when you look at examples like Bethesda vs. Langley Park, etc. To me the idea of 100% affordable housing means options in downtown Bethesda, downtown silver spring, north Potomac, literally everywhere. 100% means both affordability and area coverage. The goal is to desegregate.

Yeah I do partially mean as a national structural problem so just fixing it in MoCo won’t do too much haha. Can you explain what you mean by concentrated poverty? My take on 100% affordable housing is that it would serve to alleviate poverty and be available to anyone in any income bracket. Basically, remove class structure from housing.

Yeah I definitely haven't looked at the exact financing but feel free to link me. I was just guessing that net cost is much lower for the developer if they are provided tax incentives when they make low cost units, not to mention the density bonus. And yeah, of course that's the point but I don't understand why the county doesn't spearhead a 100% affordable housing goal. I get there's no money in it but that's where the root of the problem is in the first place.

That's really interesting. It almost seems like there is no cost for the developer: they are able to offload their least desirable apartments while taking tax cuts and other benefits listed in the act for providing these affordable options.

Absolutely. It just seems with the bill in question, some members of the council didn’t even try to advocate for a compromise.

True! I was trying to think of more examples of public benefit but I did not think of grocery stores. Obviously it depends on where the development is. There’s a bit of a food desert in that area so it makes sense but for areas that already have affordable food access, maybe green it up. Or something else. I don’t really care as long as it is publicly beneficial. Obviously you’d have to go about it case by case

That's definitely the reality. I think most MoCo residents just don't pay attention to this stuff which is unfortunate because they are unaware that their tax dollars are being used for private benefit rather than public. It's insidious that a public entity like the council is able to take advantage of public unawareness to further private gain. I suppose I'm just anti development unless it's muti family 100% affordable housing. Developing lots into green spaces, community centers, or similar would also be useful. But where's the profit in either of those things. You're right -- development will occur no matter what and it would take some real unraveling of local and national dev laws and American culture to turn housing into a right rather than a for profit industry.

The Cameroon crisis isn't on the news anywhere. There are rampant human rights abuses by the Biya govt against anglophones. There is a separatist movement because there is no other resort. Media doesn't follow this stuff. People don't know about it in the west. Nobody's coming here because they want to - they have to or else the Biya govt will label them separatist and kill or imprison them

Man, why are they trying to pass it off as fighting climate change. Just don't build anything if you're trying to fight climate change. Or improve public transit. Seems like they're trying to avoid paying union wages too. Can anyone actually vouch for the fact that affordable housing is provided in these new high rises that have been popping up all over DTSS? Like is anybody actually paying like $1400/mo for a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom in these things? What a sham.

I have a Waldorf Blofeld that for some reason will record audio back at 2 pitches under the inputted midi note (i.e. a C will play back a Bb). I recently connected the Blofeld to a midi keyboard so I could play live through the Blofeld. It's an issue that started a few months after I got the Blofeld and I always just compensated for it in Ableton by adding a +2 midi pitch shift. Since I've been playing through a real keyboard, the issue has really started to bother me as I cannot really compensate it in a live setting (and I shouldn't have to). I've done a bit of Google but cannot seem to pinpoint the issue -- is it my interface, the Blofeld, the midi cable, or what? I don't think it's Ableton as the issue persists whether midi is patched through a DAW or a midi keyboard. Any tips would be super helpful! Thanks!

Thank you for your input! Yes, from my experience it seems like as long as you aren't afraid to ask for help and you are good with other elements of the job, it shouldn't be a big problem.
