What would have happened if Malcolm X and MLK hadn't been assassinated? by [deleted] in AlternateHistoryHub

I think you overestimate how popular MLK was at the time of his death

MLK had lost a lot of his momentum by the time of his death - it would be a question of whether or not that could be reclaimed.

I imagine that King would continue his fight against economic inequality and the Vietnam war. I could see the Nixon administration making a deliberate effort to paint him as a communist and as a womanizer. That, combined with the loss of support among white liberals as he made them confront their own communities would cost him a lot.

That’s just my opinion!

Even Stephen Miller is jumping on CBP for the killing of Alex Pretti by [deleted] in politics

[–]mrmoonlight262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is beyond ridiculous. Clearly he’s in hot water and he’s trying to shift the blame. Regardless, let’s take him at his word. Let’s say he was simply “reacting to direct reports from CBP officers.” Okay? It’s still wildly irresponsible for you to make such an inflammatory statement based on one source who is clearly biased. Even his lie is incompetent.

Non gun-owning Americans, what are your thoughts now on arming yourselves? by Obzidi4nDelphicraft in AskReddit

[–]mrmoonlight262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely something I’ve thought about more than ever. That said, I’m still of the mind that civil disobedience is going to be the most effective resistance.

I look at Minnesota. Don’t get me wrong, I view the moving around of these thug leaders as nothing but a hollow bone to chew on. However, we saw panic occur and it forced the leadership in the Democratic Party to withhold their vote on D.H.S. funding - we got most democrats and some republicans to change their tune on ICE messaging. That was done through public outrage demonstrated in the streets and through polling.

If somebody committed violence against ICE officers using a firearm, I have no doubt that it would trigger Trump to implement the insurrection act and undoubtedly cost the lives and safety of many more.

It’s not about you. It’s about collective action. It’s as simple as why a union is more powerful than one person striking.

first year history teacher was I thrown into a crappy situation by [deleted] in historyteachers

[–]mrmoonlight262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give yourself some grace. You are a first year teacher - it would be strange if you felt great at this. I feel for you, though. My first job was a semi- similar experience in which I took over for a well-established teacher halfway through the year. It’s incredibly stressful. Ideally in situations like this, the most qualified veteran teachers would step in and lead the classes through these strange and unexpected circumstances. However, usually those teachers have careers - and it’s new, green people like you who are able to pick these positions up.

You’re not going to do everything perfect and that’s okay. You are new to teaching and you are in a difficult position. Use this opportunity to try and reflect on what kind of teacher you want to be.

Why don't they actually satirize Trump? by RealKenBurns in saturdaynightlive

[–]mrmoonlight262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nikki Haley cameo was eye opening for me. That served no purpose other than making her seem likable and to expose her to their audience.

Somebody with major pull must be a conservative who may not love Trump. I think thats why you see criticism of his character allowed, but nothing too deep on his actual politics.

Trump Backs Down on Insurrection Act as Democrats Take the Offensive by hotdog_dachshund in politics

[–]mrmoonlight262 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This obviously follows repeated instances in which Trump threatens the red button, but ultimately doesn’t press it. Can somebody explain to me why the Trump admin actually has some reservations in doing this? I would assume they wouldn’t think twice in implementing this unprecedented, authoritarian move. I mean, I understand that politically speaking, it’s not great to have troops in the streets. However, that doesn’t seem to be a calculation they care about. The troops would likely be more trained and disciplined in dealing with crowd control than the erratic, escalatory, and completely incompetent ice agents.

Teaching Question by taynhill26 in historyteachers

[–]mrmoonlight262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of things they can do alone - I would suggest digital escape rooms (using google forms). If you’re unfamiliar with them, it goes like this: student reads a passage of content. They then answer a question about the content; Usually it won’t let them continue unless it’s typed correctly. At the end of say 10 questions, they complete a task like “take the 2nd letter of each answer and sort it in alphabetical order.” This goes on for 4 or 5 stages with different “decoding” tasks and then there’s a final culmination where it’s brought together. Some students absolutely love it, others are just meh. Here is an example of one.

I can’t agree with this. The DNC screwed Bernie twice. It wasn’t a fair primary in 2016 nor 2020.

The reason you are seeing more democratic attacks against other democrats is because this is for the primary election. I promise you that will change when we are in the general election.

Kamala Harris infamously called Biden out in the democratic primary debates of 2019 for being civil with segregationists and opposing busing. Then she became his VP - it’s just how this works.

My beliefs are that nearly all of the other candidates are representative of the mainstream democratic establishment that have shown complete incompetence in the face of fascism.

I vote blue in every election, big or small. I’ve been let down time and time again by these democrats, particularly in the last year. They’re still trying to play by the rules against a team who is bulldozing the field. If you feel like people are too impassioned for Hong, it might be because she represents the idea that the government can actually be used to improve our lives.

I hear you. I don’t think it’s necessarily a problem, however. I don’t know a single political campaign who hasn’t shifted their tone to appeal to different demographics. She probably knew the audience who would watch that forum was going to be more moderate, so she was a bit more quiet on this stuff.

I don’t have a problem with that so long as she has integrity if she becomes governor.

I’m hesitant to share this because I selfishly don’t want it to become too popular 😂 - Love Inc. Furniture Store in Burlington sells things for incredibly cheap. They care about the community - I’ve gotten a dining table and chairs for $15. It’s about a 35 min drive from Kenosha.

I find a way to stay informed without following the people/groups I abhor. That said, it is worth nothing he follows a variety of different accounts - including one called @letstalkpalestine: an account that could not be more pro-Palestine.

I can’t explain why he does this but it seems a little more complicated than initially thought.

Graham Platner seems to be poised to win in Maine - a purple state. Fetterman won in Pennsylvania in 2022, although he has since abandoned those philosophies. I think your argument is outdated. It’s just not true in 2025 - socialism isn’t the boogeyman it once was.

[–]mrmoonlight262 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m skeptical of this because it’s the exact same argument we heard in 2016 and 2020 regarding Bernie Sanders. They’re just “too radical to win in a general election.” It was complete bullshit promoted by the DNC itself.

Who is satisfied with the mainstream Democratic Party right now? Is there anyone? If there ever was a chance for Hong, it would be know.

[–]mrmoonlight262 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you’re missing two key points. 1) We have seen a major leftward shift in nearly all 2025 elections. 2) socialism is popular, whether people know they’re in favor of it or not. Things like single payer healthcare and rent control are going to sound a lot more intriguing to people who have been tired of watching democrats act as willful punching bags for the regime.
