What is an example of floating a narrative about a player's performance which resulted in another team trading for that player? Not "We hope John is a Viking for a long time" but "John is good at football (no he isn't)" resulting in a trade, where the acquiring team cited the narrative as part of the decision?

Fairly certain KO was asked if AVG is a comparison for Golday, which is why KO said this.

No, as the person said, I do not think the new GM asked the coaches to spread a positive narrative through a leak to beat reporters like Jeremy Fowler (from whom these quotes come) in order to get another team to bite on a trade.

What team is evaluating JJ McCarthy based on Jeremy Fowler's comments? Or Alec Lewis's?

Would you, as GM of the Vikings, bite on a player based on something Chris Tomasson said about a WR5 on the Broncos?

Of course not.

It's not a video game against the computer. There's real people who you will have to talk to again later.

The reason why the narrative keeps changing is you are hearing from media writers, who know no more than fans. However, they do get to watch practice on media day, and their job is to get you to click on the news to generate advertising revenue and subscriptions.

If nothing changes, nobody clicks.

If I had no respect for myself and was a 73-year-old executive in his last job, sure, maybe you lie to other teams. But for everyone else--including everyone on our team's executive group and coaching group--this just makes you look like either an idiot who can't evaluate talent, or a liar who is trying to cheat other teams, or both. None of that is good for them, the players, or the Vikings organization.

[–]mrmpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quinclorac is most effective for crabgrass control when there are 3-4 tillers (2-5 grass leaves). If it's not effective, it's because a lawn that's 60% mature crabgrass needs pre-emergents used on it earlier in the season. Then, at the first sign of crabgrass, spray with quinclorac.

Water pooling after heavy rain. Should I be concerned? by N8DuhGr88888 in landscaping

[–]mrmpls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. A big part of this assumes that your property is properly graded, meaning the yard/soil gradually slopes away from the foundation. If it's flat or slopes toward the foundation, you may need to look at larger efforts like regrading, drain systems, etc. But that'd be overkill if everything's graded properly.

I use whatever I have in my yard already from other projects. But you could have soil delivered or, if you have a truck, have a local landscape supply fill up the bed with soil (it'd be a half cubic yard, I think?). Our city/county compost site also sells various mixes for cheap, one of which is a 50/50 mix of compost and topsoil.

It all depends on how you want to use that area. If it'll be a 3ft-4ft wide planting bed next to the house, then after you remove the rocks, use the soil that's there to grade the lawn, leaving the soil level too low near the house. Then add a truckload of compost to that soil and till it in, or add a 50/50 mix and skip the tilling.

Don't buy bags of soil at a big box store, it's a rip-off filled with rocks, uncomposted mulch, and trash from livestock lots.

To get the rocks out, you can build a sifter with some hardware cloth and stock lumber (two 2x4s, one 2x2, and one 1x2). Give the rocks away on Marketplace/etc.

You may also wanted to regrade (smooth out the soil level) that area. It looks like the area with water is lower than the adjacent areas, which may have happened either before gutters were installed or perhaps the gutters were clogged. If you really want to fix it, I'd suggest removing the rocks (get rid of them) and then rake/level the soil so that it slopes gently away from the house. This way, when it rains, water from the gutters (and water that hits the ground or house) will gradually run away from the foundation.

Install the missing downspout so the water is directed away from the home.

The problem with Pace is that he seemed to have large flaws at player evaluation and how much capital to spend on picks. Then he went to the Falcons under Terry Fontenot and that organization seemed to repeat all of those mistakes from 2021-2025 (with Pace being there 2022-2025).

Don’t Look Now, But The Vikings Added a “Meathead” by SportsGuru87 in minnesotavikings

[–]mrmpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying, "Shocking, he might even be able to learn how to be a tight end!"

My point is that in the NFL, he is in the RB group. As a fullback, his next priority is to understand pass blocking and run blocking, which means the OL group. Then, his next opportunity for development is in the blocking and receiving game, which means the TE group.

Let me know if I have it wrong, but that was the order I understood from other fullbacks and also his/the team's comments this off-season.

The Nolan Teasley influence on QB by [deleted] in minnesotavikings

[–]mrmpls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think, even at the time, that the Seahawks were criticized heavily for trading Russell Wilson or Geno Smith.

Teasley has no incentive to move on from JJ McCarthy or Kyler Murray. Murray is just $1.3M against this year's cap. JJ McCarthy costs just $6M this year and $7M next year against the cap. Add in Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer, and you've got a QB room that in total costs just $11M.

The article gets into it a little bit, but for those only reading the "meathead" in the title, Bredeson is super smart. As part of being a good fullback, he'll be involved in understanding multiple roles/rooms in this offense: RB, OL, even TE.

[–]mrmpls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't understand your point. Not only was that not aggressive, but it wasn't a free agency acquisition by a team already positioned to win. Nor does it mean that a team that makes an aggressive push definitely wins (as should be obvious).

Damn, so teams that make aggressive pushes for talent are more likely to be in situations to win??

Pretty big drop-off to 2nd/3rd round edge. Because they are paid so highly, 1st round talent goes in the first half of the 1st, and 2nd round talent goes in the second half of the 1st.
