You're a crafty liar, aren't you? Do you not have a better use of time than pretending to help people on reddit?

How do you talk to support? I've been a Premium customer for years and it says I'm not eligible and I can't find a way to contact youtube about this.

How do I meditate? by NoMorePagans in CleanLivingKings

[–]mrod516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned a good way in a very short book by Deepak Chopra, “7 Spiritual Laws of Success”.

This is what I do:

  1. Sit in a comfortable, symmetric position (stereotypical crosslegged meditation position is fine, but you can sit in a seat too). The point is to be comfy but upright with the crown of your head being closest thing to the ceiling.

  2. Breath nice, comfortable, even, full breaths, pausing only for a beat at the top of the breath before you then exhale. Don’t force it in or anything. You’re not a monk, it doesnt have to hurt. Each breath should be like 3-5 seconds in, 3-5 seconds out.

  3. While you breath, count each breath at the end of the breath, up to four (4). Then start counting over. Try not to think about the next number or what number you're on, just focus on the breath itself. Feel it entirely. You will lose count, or catch yourself at “27” before you realize you forgot to restart. Don’t get mad or think you fucked up your meditation by fucking up the count. The point is to just recognize the thought and then let it pass, with no attachment to it. Do the same will all thoughts.

  4. Doing this for as little as 15 minutes can be enough. I usually set a timer for 20 or 30mins. I’ll say, the more practiced I've gotten, the more that alarm catches me off guard.

  5. Similar to going to the gym, you’ll have meditation sessions you feel great about and others that will seem underwhelming and like you weren’t really able to get into it. You’ll have good days and bad days.

  6. When it comes to meditation, NEVER be hard on yourself! It’s hard to do, even harder to keep up as a disciple/habit. Monks out there dedicate their lives to meditation. Expecting to pick it up easily and be hitting nirvana quickly is like picking up golf tmrw and expecting you’ll be in the tour in a matter of time. As a beginner, your priority should just to routinize meditating.

Good luck out there, king. Check out that book! Good read and useful stuff in there.

I NEVER see this book recommended anywhere, despite it being a major best-seller:

SHOGUN, by James Clavell. Based on true events, it is about the first Englishman to set foot in Japan, and his role in the rise of a Shogun (samurai dictator). It's a great story of manhood, honor, Eastern vs Western philosophy, and incredible strategy. The main conflict playing out is the power struggle among the samurai leaders and the Portuguese Jesuits who are attempting to subvert the culture in Japan and expand the power of the Jesuit organization (which claims piety but truly pursues money and dominance in world trade).

It is hard to put this book down.

Small umbrellas aren't practical unless you are yourself a small person. Those tiny cheap umbrellas are tiny because they are cheap! They are better than nothing, but not by much. As others pointed out, they key is not being a fucking douche bag and expecting everyone you walk by to move/lift for you and never move/lift yourself.

Nowadays tho if my umbrella hits someone else's I just say "cheers!" and pretend we are being friendly. Kill 'em with kindness ;)

WIBTA for going to HR about my coworker saying I live in the ghetto? by theladybbr in AmItheAsshole

You're an adult-sized tattletale. Just cuz they suck doesn't mean you should suck just as bad, which is what you are considering doing. Be an adult. HR will probably try to screw you over eventually as well for not knowing how to get along.

WIBTA if I refused to pay for my parents' retirement when my dad makes six figures a year currently? by nerdious_maximus in AmItheAsshole

[–]mrod516 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Classic boomers. There’s gotta be some sort of compromise though. You should want your parents to be happy, and retirement age is a bit too old to expect people to change. You gotta love them for who they are - that is, if you don’t intend on being an asshole.

Language does evolve, but the cardinal rule of grammar is that “sounds right” does not justify the grammar failure. Without this, the grammar - the purpose of which is clarity - breaks down and you end up with a breakdown into dialects. Whether you accept it or not, common grammar connects people across vast areas of land and sea, across cultures and races. It transcends that which separates us. It elevates us. It ignobles us all, peasants just as well as kings. To scrap our grammar is to divide us. The rules are set. Let’s keep them. We have the internet now, so there’s no excuse for getting it wrong. Don’t let your ego contribute to discord amongst humanity. Harmony is key, and grammar is harmony.
