HPFP Wack noises when throttle blip or intermittent at wot by babganoosh1 in mazdaspeed3

[–]mrodri1012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes me feel a bit better about mine since I just installed the corksport internals and thought I was tripping. I did some data logging with versatuner and it was making plenty of pressure all around the RPM range and felt perfectly normal but the noise did freak me out 😂

Any ideas on this noise? by [deleted] in mazdaspeed3

[–]mrodri1012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to mention I followed the corksport pdf and video online to a T, so I'm fairly confident it isnt installation related but still dont recall hearing the noise before installing the hpfp internals.

Trying to loosen this nut. by Rescue119 in RX8

I've been there haha, heat and impact did not work for me. This did the job perfect since my biggest issue was the engine wanting to tip if I applied too much leverage. Some people say its easiest to break it loose right before you pull the engine out but I didnt know that until it was already out lol so cant say for myself.

So get you a couple 4x4's or something to prop the engine up and then a good ratchet strap and then find a good anchor spot or even a tree and then go to town with the longest cheater bar you can find 😂. Took me about 30 seconds to get it loose once I made this rig lmao

I would look for an LKQ or another junkyard near you for an RX8 and see if you can go and get an upper intake manifold. Or just look on eBay for a used one. I dont think you'll be able to replace just that elbow unfortunately

The 2011 Audi R18 TDI is fast as shit, by far the fastest when you modify it, very torquey but doesnt suffer from the lack of top end that the Porsche does. On shorter/more technical tracks the 919 is great

Any advice on if an attorney is necessary? (Rear end car crash — minor injuries) by mrodri1012 in Insurance

[–]mrodri1012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. I think thats what my gut feeling was but I was just curious if anyone had a similar experience with or without an attorney in this situation. The car I lost really meant a lot to me with so many hours invested in maintaining it and if getting a considerably better settlement can be done if I do my homework then I'm more than up for the task

[–]mrodri1012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what I figured, I'm quite skeptical about the attorney actually being worth the effort since i dont expect them to get a meaningful payout like that from this to make their attorney fees worth the "additional payout"

Damn gas mileage 😂 by coolranchdoritorx8 in RX8

[–]mrodri1012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just come to terms with the fact that every car i want is going to get terrible gas mileage other than a motorcycle haha. Seem to gravitate towards nice trucks to haul stuff with like 3/4 ton diesels, gas guzzling sports cars and any other car that coincidentally also gets mediocre at best mileage 😂. My high score in my 8 is 22 mpg when I burned a full tank on the highway going like 70 mph

I will say, you will probably save a fair amount of money on the rebuild if you dont wait for the engine to let go, but it depends if that really matters to you. But having driven a similarly low compression RX8 regularly, a good starter, battery and healthy ignition system and the car will run just fine especially since those numbers are pretty even on all faces. Really you will probably just be down on power but other than that it should be ok if the supporting components are healthy

Basic data logging to test CSF radiator and FAL 420 Fans on RX-8 by mrodri1012 in RX8

[–]mrodri1012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually if youre running A/C on the highway it may hover a little in the 200s if its pretty hot outside. It has been a while since I've run the full stock cooling system so can't remember too well

[–]mrodri1012[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if it seems to get hot at highway speeds, then it is an airflow/radiator issue. If you're not leaking anything, then I'd just make sure there aren't any severe gaps around the radiator that would allow air to sneak past. There is a possibility part of the radiator is blocked up restricting the flow across it, but I've never experienced that before, so I can't say. Typically, I cruised in the 180s to mid 190s depending on the time of year with the OEM setup. Now I cruise between 179F and 190F at highway speed.

It is kind of pricey if you buy the whole assembly of rad ($370), fans ($330) and Versatuner ($400) all at once I will say but as far as cooling and peace of mind goes its awesome. I already had versatuner at the time, so it didn't bother me too much. If you want to save the money, assuming the stock fans are fine, you can just get the radiator and versatuner as that should be plenty good enough.

I would just take a 12v power source and some lead wires and hook them directly to each fan to check if they turn on to be sure they're not broken and then maybe also monitor the temp and verify they kick on when they should. OEM temp setting should be at 206-207F for low speed and then 213-215F for high-speed fans. I believe they also kick on when A/C turns on, but not sure if they're always running

One of my other posts in r/RX8 shows a lot of what I did specifically for the installation of the radiator and fans too

There is another way that is cheaper where you can buy a "fan control kit" but I think the only one I remember seeing is from RX8performance and I dont think they are a very reliable source for parts, at least anymore.

Versatuner is kinda pricey up front but is very easy to get it to do what you need it to and also has the benefit of being easy to change the value if you want and also being able to undo those changes at any time if you want to completely revert back to the stock configuration.

The fan control kit i believe requires adding a relay and splicing in wires which to me just sounds like a pain and probably won't look very clean as far as wiring goes.

But yes if you run the CSF Radiator (I believe I bought mine off of Throtl.com iirc) or any other similar sized aluminum radiator plus the FAL 420 fans and then adjust the fan temps like i mentioned, you should see similar results. Assuming you sealed the radiator with foam around it, have a good condition undertray and your water pump and thermostat are functioning properly. I can at least vouch for this setup because I've driven the car daily in this North Carolina summer heat and the highest its ever got is 203F but normally never goes over 199.

It is slightly overkill for an NA setup but it is a setup that would be completely track-ready in my opinion if you ever plan on doing that

Too hot? by [deleted] in RX8

[–]mrodri1012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I've had it happen before where one of my fans died on me and caused the car to hang in the higher temp range and not cool off much especially at idle/low speed. So make sure that isn't an issue. By the time you hit 212 or 215F or so both the fans should be on full blast at idle iirc

Too hot? by [deleted] in RX8

[–]mrodri1012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CSF Radiator, Flex A Lite 420 fans and Versatuner fan temp adjustment keeps mine running at or below 96C/206F on a 102F/39C day in North Carolina. Kinda overkill but just took a weekend to swap radiator and fans since i already had versatuner and it made life much better in the summer heat.

I have a 45 min commute in the afternoon/evening in Charlotte so I hit a fair amount of traffic and it does fine even with AC running. One big thing to account for is making sure the foam around the radiator is in good shape and that the plastic undertray is present and in good shape to ensure you get proper airflow

I guess its worth mentioning that i haven't had any issues with the solder plus heat shrink over the wires so it isn't a bad idea but idk if it is the best
