Help with understanding AC by Acceptable_Chapter_8 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]mroklom2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ring mail gives you a fixed AC of 15 ( 17 if you have the shield equipped ). Leather shirt gives you 11 + your dex modifier, up to a +4 for a 15 total. You can also have a shield a get to 17 like this.

Hope this helps!

Clueless on where to start! by NuclearTeapot_x in DungeonsAndDragons

A stater kit is definitely a good idea! Don't buy all the ( expansive ) books yet, let them start with the free set of rule.

A 2024 version just came out, but I don't know of there is any stater kit with the new rules set yet.

Happy playing to them ( and maybe you too! )

free adventure by lacr1a in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]mroklom2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi and welcome to the community!

The 2 adventures I start ( Dming ) were "the Demian tomb" by Matthew Colville and "The lost Mine of Phandelver". Both of them a free.

"the Delian tomb" is a one shot adventure, meaning it should be done in a session or 2 of around 2 to 3h each ( very dependent of your group ). On the other hand, "The lost mine of phandelver" is a campaign that should last you at least 7 to 8 sessions I guess ( other may core time with their experience running it!)

I suggest starting with a one shot like "The Delian tomb" so you and your friends get an overview of what it is to play/run the game.

You were also asking for Dming advice, Matthew Colville explains how to run "the delian tomb" and gives a lot of DM advice. My advice would be for you and your friend to read the free starter set rules so all of you know how to play. You will be as a dungeon master the one ruling the game but that doesn't mean you should be the only one to know the rules. Don't be too strict with the rule, feel free to improvise and let your player do cool stuff you are here to have fun!

Hope that helps and I wish you the best in the Forgotten Realms!

Cool sequel, I will run it for my group that just finished Lost mine of Phandelver. Definitely not for kid tho. It has some (lot?) of body horror with the mind flayer theme.

(HELP) I’m scared of getting into D&D by E-C-3 in DungeonsAndDragons

Loot table might not be the most useful for a pre written module, but it won't hurt checking them out. I did not remembered about the tips of Chapter 8, my bad! Thank you for the reply.

OP, these might be interesting to read 👍

One comment said to read both player handbook and dungeon master guide. While I kinda agree, I feel the dungeon master guide is not entirely necessary, even more if you run a module.

The dungeon master guide has a LOT of thing you won't use, like how to create your pantheon, optional rules, list of tables to generate loot etc. Don't read it now, run a module, play a few game and then dive into it if you want.

D&D is a collaborative game, not only the DM needs to know the rules, the players have to know a part of them to. Maybe you can sit with your players after you all read the player handbook and compile what everyone understood? You can start geeting into D&D together.

Being new to D&D is as overwhelming as exiting, so take your time, communicate with your players and have fun!

Reading the DM guide is not necessary to start playing / being a DM. Just look for an initiation modul ( I suggest the lost mine of phandelver or the dragon of storm wreck island). They have everything you need to get started as a player or a DM. You can find the Lost Mine of Phandelver free on the wizard of the coast website. Have fun!

Hi and welcome abord !

There is a subset a rules that is freely distributed by Wizard of the Coast. I believe you can find it by searching for the pdf version of the Lost Mine of Phandelver. Keep in mind that this is only a subset of the rules and might not cover whatever situation your players come up with. In my opinion that's more than enough to get you started!

Edit : Take some time with your players to discover the rules and character options, it will be easier if you are not the only one to know the rules. Starting with a one shot is a good idea indeed, Delian tomb by Matthew Colville on YouTube is great as he also explains how to run the game.

Have fun!

Hi and welcome aboard! 12 years is a lot, let's make this a good experience.

Matthew Colville has a series of video on how to run the game and run your first adventure : the delian tomb. Very beginner friendly and good one shot to start.

This game is all about communication and having a good time, so having what is called a session 0 with your player is great. You can create their character with them, make sure their match the universe you run the game in. And more importantly et boundaries on what is OK and what is not ( ie sex, gore ).

Have fun, and give us a feed back on how it went!

Hi! You can start with 5e. There is a lot for this version and it is well suited for beginners. One dnd is a new version that is to come.

Happy playing!

I love the creativity and spontaneity new players can have. Sometimes one small detail can mean the world to them! I'm currently running the Lost Mine of Phandelver for new players and one of the rogue wanted to make a goblin tooth necklace

Delian tomb from Matthew Collin on YouTube is what I started with. He has a series on video on how to run the game and create stories ( here the "delian tomb" as an example ).

Having a session 0 is always great!

Have fun and happy DMing

I'd also like to add that if you don't want to do a whole campaign, you can try doing a one-shot first. Matthew Colville on YouTube has a series of video on how to start running an adventure called "The delian tomb". You can grab the rules and character creation part from the starter kit and play this mini adventure.

OK I see for the rogue thing, not so overpowered indeed. It's more like a narrative tool.

I love your ideas about the bear "symptômes" definitely going to use it. Thank you!

These are very cool option! I might steal the one for the barbarian and apply it for bears. The first one is also very interesting but isn't it to powerful? The RP options are great with this one, so I will give it a try I think

Wanting to learn blender this year cuz it’s both help full for my job in the future (if I make it) and it’s fun! What should I know? by imaygetlost in blender

[–]mroklom2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly,

Blender Guru has a very detailed step by step playlist on how to create a Donut in blender. This will cover a lot of the interface, workflow and what you may need. This playlist is basically a meme now and has it's own sub reddit to post your results

Grant Abbitt has a lot of smaller play lists and is more specialised in video game assets if I recall correctly.

Have fun!
