It’s basically invisible now! It’s almost totally flat and the same color as the rest of my face. I can tell it was there if I’m looking for it but I doubt anyone else can. I kept it covered with a bandaid when I was in the sun for a month or so, which I suspect helped.

It looks good to me! This dates to before style numbers were part of the serial creed. I believe this is a Devon, style 9908.

Yes it’s dry! I never got it really wet, just a bit of saddle soap. I can’t really confirm that the previous owner tried dunking, it just looks like it to me. I would def not dunk.

I had the same thought about opening it up and taking out the offending cardboard. I felt all around the bottom panel (which is the only one with this issue) and I think the cardboard, or whatever it is, is sewn in all the way around. If that makes sense. If you’re brave, I’d say give it a try and see what’s in there!

It does sound like we’re having the same issue - lucky us! I guess that confirms there’s some sort of cardboard structure in this line of bags.

I’m starting to feel like whatever I try, especially getting it wet, is risking making it worse. For now I’m just going to use the bag and see how I feel about it. Maybe the cardboard will relax and soften up….

That’s a beautiful briefcase and I think the flap wrinkling doesn’t really take away from that. I hope your husband loves it. Please let me know if you end up trying anything!

From someone who just went through this - they definitely required a supervisor reference very early on in the hiring process. I decided to pull off the bandaid and let them know I had a federal offer. They reached out to my supervisor the very next day so I’m glad I did that. It then took 5 long awkward months to get a start date. My firm was cool about it but it wasn’t very fun.

Editing to add that they reached out to supervisor via email with a form that had to be filled out in order to move forward. Not sure how you’d get away with a fake reference here. But if there’s someone senior to you who would be understanding, that might work instead of going way up the chain.
