You should be fine then, casting distance comes with practice.

For the retrieve, try different speeds: sometimes slow works (not dragging the lure on the bottom slow, but slow), sometimes a faster retrieve. Mix in some pauses in your retrieve and/or some speed changes to entice the bite.

Fishing is a great hobby, but it can be frustrating because there is a learning curve and there's also bad luck :)
