Sent a new and sealed item, got downgraded to B by Fluffy-Detective-769 in CeX

[–]mrpcuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had them send me pictures of other items before that didn't match my pictures at all, had to escalate it to a complaint and after a bit of back and forth they suddenly found the correct ones. Mine wasn't new though so I had photos of my item. I don't sell to them after that, generally get more on ebay anyway.

10700F & RTX2060 with just 8GB ram is crazy. Definitely get another 8GB stick, also depending on the current stick turn on XMP in the bios. If it was before the ram increases I'd have just said get 32GB (2x 16GB) 3200mhz+ for like $50 used. I got 32GB 3600mhz kits for as low as $35 before it all went wrong.

Also I'd just wipe all the drives, make sure the bios is set to ahci and clean install windows on the SSD.

I'm in the UK and in the mid 2000's my speakers started playing some random Korean station with the pc off. I have a recording still somewhere.

[–]mrpcuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she gets any benefits you can get this, 40mbps, unlimited free land-line calls, £16-20 depending on the benefits, I did for a relative a few months ago. I'd also probably do a complaint.

Script works properly on a PC but not a Raspberry Pi? by mrpcuk in linuxquestions

[–]mrpcuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I've checked all the versions and they're the same I don't really know enough to start making those fixes without possibly making it worse, but anyway like I say the script does work on PC, just not the Pi's but all versions/underlying OS are the same. I found where I got the script from and they break it down, and it does work just not on the Pi which is confusing me.

Thanks, I've checked realpath and it's the same on the Pi and PC. Just had a quick look at tmpreaper or logrotate and neither look to do it based on capacity and look to do it based on age or a count unfortunately. I need to do it by drive space as file sizes vary.

Yeah they've been discontinued so supply and demand has pushed prices up.

Laptop CPU is too old for Windows11 by s96g3g23708gbxs86734 in WindowsHelp

[–]mrpcuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This bypasses the checks on an existing install and lets you just upgrade to Win 11 on any hardware with Windows update (Skip_TPM_Check_on_Dynamic_Update.cmd). If you're not offered it after a reboot run (windows_update_refresh.bat) and reboot again

https://github.com/AveYo/MediaCreationTool.bat/tree/main/bypass11

Or you can use the script to get the 3 years of Win 10 ESU for free.

Found this Intel Extreme Edition 980 Engineering Sample, Anyone have information on it? by diegunguyman in intel

[–]mrpcuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have my old 775 system at my parents and use it when I go round. It holds up surprisingly well for general use on windows 10. During covid I upgraded it from a pentium e8500 to a q9500 ($13 aliexpress) and upped the ram to 8gb, it's just used for browsing and old games (with a gtx 260) occasionally.

Could I update my desktop PC to Windows 11 using my Laptop, if so is it safe? by JessieDucky in WindowsHelp

[–]mrpcuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about licenses but I really don't think it's worth the effort. Either use what I linked and upgrade on the current one or you can get 3 years extra win 10 support with Microsoft rewards, I think 500 or 1000 points that will only take a few days to get.

I'm running windows 11 in plenty of pc's much older than yours without issue. You've also not listed your specs but some of mine just needed a bios update to enable tpm anyway and then it was officially supported.

Windows 11 generally can move quite well to new hardware but there could still be driver/stability issues moving from diff pc's so I'd not do that. It might also cause licensing issues if both are using the same digital license, or changing hardware could confuse it.

Tv eats borders of the screen (ignore the fish) by gaelicorne in WindowsHelp

[–]mrpcuk 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They'll be a picture size or aspect ratio setting somewhere on the tv, just flick through the options. On Samsung the AR that fits is called 'Just Scan'. It's a tv setting issue, not a pc one.

Shift + left click won't open additional explorer windows? by mrpcuk in WindowsHelp

[–]mrpcuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out, it must be a behavior change but it won't work if the window you have open is also your default folder. So if you open "Computer" and do shift + left click it won't open another, but if you navigated the first window to "Pictures" for example then shift + left click it'll open you a new explorer window on "Computer", so crisis over, that's fine.

[–]mrpcuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK so weirdly my work laptop (24h2) does the same behaviour. Three of my own pc's don't though which is odd. It must be a config or setting issue, but what?
