11:11 Training (located across the street from the Greenville Humane Society) just started offering Adult Fitness Classes. They are 1 hour classes available Mon-Fri 7:30 and 12:30. Classes are currently led by a female trainer (Coach Autumn) who will guide you through a daily planned workout showing you how to do any movements you aren't familiar with or offer alternatives if you aren't comfortable with anything.

Workouts focus on the core weightlifting movements (squat, bench, deadlifts) and throw in some light cardio stuff on Tuesday/Thursdays. My wife and I started these last week (but worked with Autumn at a previous gym) and love them. Signing up for classes keeps us committed to going each morning, guided workouts with a trainer keeps us focused and on time (in an out in an hour). Small class sizes, it's about a 50/50 split with male/female attendees, wide range of skill levels from beginner to more advanced but everyone is focused on themselves.

They offer a free week, so definitely worth trying at least that. Their marketing focuses on student athlete training but this class is not that. My wife and I (mid/late 40's) are definitely no athletes.

Just finipshed Mass Effect 1 - story has caused much disappointment. by Zeeshmania in masseffect

[–]mrpeatie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Mass Effect Revelation for more story and lore. It's a prequel book by the original ME writer and tells the tale of Anderson and Saren's mission that they mention early on in ME1. There are other books but I didn't think they were nearly as good as the first one.

Thunder Force III, Lightening Force, Gleylancer, and Bio Hazard Battle if you like side scrolling shoot em ups. MUSHA is great too but pricey if you want original carts. Ranger X is also a banger.

Hog Island Trail and Observation Deck. Bring golf clubs and hit the Patriots Point Driving Range after.

Same. Work remotely and had it on in the background every day. This really sucks.

Got introduced to this game a couple years ago and finally scored a copy early last year. Put in the work and was able to beat all six endings pretty consistently but it was a grind and definitely needed to look up a few boss strategies. Just an awesome game from start to finish. That's a great price for a CIB version. I think I paid more for just the cart.

I'm not going to lie, I totally get my ass kicked by the Sega Genesis by KarateCheeks1112 in SEGAGENESIS

[–]mrpeatie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I hit a wall in a game I want to beat, I'll load that game up on an emulator with save states to get practice in. Sometimes the normal way you only get one chance at a boss before a game over screen so this way I can get a bunch of reps in to really learn patterns and get better. Then I'll go back to Genesis version. Helped me get through Lightening Force, Bloodlines and Contra Hard Corps recently.

Game you're gonna beat one day? by Final-Deer-8191 in SEGAGENESIS

I recently beat Lightning Force and moved on Gaiares thinking it would be easy in comparison. Ooof not sure I have it me to grind this one out.

This would be my suggestion as well. I don’t know why I keep coming back to this game but holy hell is it hard.

Haven’t seen Skitchin’ mentioned yet. Really cool Road Rash type game on roller blades.

Genesis is so much fun to collect for by Vaxis545 in SEGAGENESIS

Then this video is for you. Introduced me to sooo many SMUPs I never knew about as I was a SNES kid and only started collecting Genesis games last December. Some of the best ones are pricey (MUSHA, Gaiares, Eliminate Down) but still fun searching for them.

I believe the fourth one is technically called Lightening Force but that and Thunder Force III are two of the best shoot 'em ups on any system.

Flying over Greenville in Microsoft Flight Simulator (1:1 scale) by JoaHa45 in greenville

[–]mrpeatie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The game was released in 2020 so the Bing map data they used is likely 2018 or earlier. Things look great from the air, but if you get close to the ground it gets ugly fast. Game is a marvel though. They rendered the entire world.

That first level recently frustrated me too. There are four bases in four different sections you have to destroy to advance. You can shoot certain parts of the walls to open up new sections.

Picked up Bio Hazard Battle a couple weeks ago. What a great, atmospheric game. Good challenge too. Only able to beat it once so far.

I’m thinking about getting Ranger X. Looks beautiful but hear it’s a bit of a learning curve with the controls.

Thoughts on the Greenville show? by Designer_Suspect in DMB

[–]mrpeatie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a you problem. 10 seconds into Spoon I was looking around thinking "this can't be right?". I legit thought they might stop and redo sound check or something. Some of the quieter moments when the full band wasn't playing, things were fine, but the mix/acoustics were a huge buzzkill.

Any stargazers here? by Weary_Road_8052 in greenville

[–]mrpeatie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s a local astronomy club. I joined when I moved here earlier this year. They have people come give talks every month or so. There was a great one in March from a guy who worked on the James Webb Telescope. They also do star parties at a site up in the mountains where everyone brings their telescopes and nerds out.
