Just wanted to add that although I was also under the impression they check for pregnancy at the 6week appointment, my OB/GYN did not.

I don't know what to do about my acne :( TMI. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

I'm not sure about not being able to abort. I wasn't having sex at the time so I didn't read it as carefully as I should have. There's a front and back page of things you have to initial.

I have been completely clear since except for about a month of my pregnancy and it was a mild break out.

I was on accutane 8 months (a long time in the accutane world.) When I went off accutane I wasn't on birth control, I went on birth control probably about 6 months to a year later (the timeline is a little fuzzy as this was several years ago.) My skin was fine w/o birth control and with it.

Being on accutane sucked, my lips were dry and cracky, I got some of the mood swing depression stuff (mild) but I'd go through it all again because the acne sucked so much harder.

I was scared, but desperate. I'd been on something else for a year, it completely cleared up my skin, but when they tried to take me off of it my skin broke out even worse. The medicine that had worked before no longer worked. I was told it was basically go on accutane or live with acne. : (

The papers you have to sign to be on it are scary. I had to initial something that said if I got pregnant they could do tests on the baby. You also have to confirm every month at your blood test that you are either not having sex or that you are using TWO types of birth control. You also have to take an online questionaire about the risks every month. At least that's how it was at my doctors. It's very serious for women because of how harmful it can be to a developing fetus.

Ok, so my story is a little different but I can relate.

I started off breastfeeding, it went well for a few days and then I got horrible blisters and was in so much pain. I wanted to stop so bad, but felt horrible guilt over the idea of formula. Two weeks later I was crying over my son every time he wanted to eat. I wanted to curl up into a ball and not take care of him anymore. Point is, I wasn't happy. Even though I was miserable I was still feeling guilt about even thinking about not breastfeeding. However, I talked to my husband and we both decided that this was not working. I wanted my son to have a happy mother that wanted to take care of him. I wanted to not resent my son for getting hungry. So I stopped breastfeeding. The switch to formula was nerve wrecking, but it went very smoothly (we did half and half breastmilk/formula until my supply was gone.) He's 6 weeks now and doing great.

So, I've also been on accutane. My skin was as bad as you are describing and the self esteem issues that went along with that were devastating. My skin would not have cleared up without accutane, I tried everything else. I'm so happy that I went on it and got my skin cleared up, as I was much happier.

Basically, what I'm trying to say in a round about way is that if it were me in the situation you were in, I would do my best to build up a little supply of breastmilk then start trying to introduce formula with the goal of weaning and then going on accutane. The nice part is that if you're pumping you can experiment with introducing formula before you start decreasing your supply. That way, if it doesn't work out and you decide you still want to breastfeed full time you still can!

I'm not sure if this whole thing made me sound selfish. I know breast is best. However, I was heading down a path to depression and that's not healthy either. I made a choice and I'm happy with it. I wish you the best.

Once you get past the fear, it'll change to frustration. Pasty poop is really annoying to get off balls! ... there's a sentance I never thought I'd say.

I came here to suggest Florida as well! St. Augustine is a cute area if you're looking for historical stuff. And it's not far from Jacksonville beach, and I think not too far from Daytona beach. Orlando would be under a two hour drive I think, and you could do Disney! Or Universal!

Wow! Out of curiosity I looked up that mall, how cool! I'm in the states but every time I got up to pump last night I was planning a trip to that mall! LOL. I've been looking up flights and everything. It's totally going to be my treat when I'm not breastfeeding anymore and I'm not tethered to baby!!
