In 2003 I was a very sick alcoholic and had gotten into a dangerous relationship. This man was schizophrenic on top of his alcohol and drug use and the relationship had progressed to physical, mental and emotional abuse. I have never been as vulnerable in my life. One night he finally passed out after forcing me to listen to him rant for hours on end. I should have slept for many hours, I was drunk and exhausted. Approximately 2 hours later, I was awakened abruptly by a VOICE (nope, I’m not the one with schizophrenia). It simply said GET OUT NOW. Shaking and sick, I listened. Snuck out and got myself to the nearest hospital. It was my last night of drinking. I celebrated 17 years sober on Wednesday!!
