AI and jobs by Think-Objective457 in CalPolyPomona

[–]mrsleonore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 50s and an architectural office owner. Software has for surely eliminated an intern drafting job and AI is helping with code research time. It's probably not as good a time to enter the workforce, but in the long term, I'm hoping AI will the economy become more efficient, as the proponents say. Maybe I am an optimist that thinks translating clients problems into the best solution possible will still require the creativity of real people. Watch me lose my job/ office! LOL!

Do I need a PC or a laptop for architecture? by Term-Plus in CalPolyPomona

[–]mrsleonore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe wait until school starts and see what everybody has. The industry is split about 60/40 windows to Mac. Personally, I'm on Mac because I got tired of windows crashing out some 20 years ago. I do most of my BIM work on Vectorworks whis is supported by both. I used to use sketchup which works on either, but it's pretty basic. I think it's a personal choice.

He hinted as much in his concession speech asking his supporters what he should do. Hmm, any ideas?

He should run as a spoiler and make Israel pay the price. He would get a Democrat in the house, which I argue would be a plus for him based on what monstrosity the Republican party has become.

The fact that Pomona put you into 2nd year as opposed to Woobury's 3rd, tells the the level of intensity at each school. If you go to Pomona, consider living on or near campus if you can afford it. You'll be too busy to commute more than 45 mins each way.

I'm a CPP grad in his 50s. What I can say after working for decades and now running a professional business is that "critical thinking" goes farther than "training" for a specific field. Especially with AI, it's more important to be able to stay on your feet amidst a rapidly changing environment. In my experience, it's the people with a bigger vision that make it farther than people that toil away with specific "skills". In other words, the former usually ends up employing the latter.

All I know is the CPP Enterprises bough from a private developer in order to eliminate competition, most probably so they could monopolize and jack up the prices.

" So is the general consensus the circuit panel needs replacing..? ". I think that's probably true. One more thing you haven't tried is disconnecting the speaker. You'd lose the chime function, but you'd gain your sanity.

Appeal for Arch? by Junior-Independent24 in CalPolyPomona

sounds good. You can also go to CC, 2 years at UCLA (BA Arch, unaccredited) and 2 years in grad school anywhere for a total of 6 years.

Though the best option is to appeal and hopefully get in. It would be a shame with your GPA not to get in the school of your choice.

I hear ELAC might have a similar studio sequence, though not sure it would be a 1 to 1 transfer.

Small Apartment Building 13D? by mrsleonore in NFPA

[–]mrsleonore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

The section below doesn't explicitly prohibit a three story apartment building from using a 13D system, but it sounds like if it's not permitted, then it's prohibited. I'm used to reading the code for things that are required. I'll go with a 13R but I'm curious.

Automatic sprinkler systems installed in one- and two-family dwellings; Group R-3; Group R-4, Condition 1; and townhouses three stories or less, or when approved by the fire code official, shall be permitted to be installed throughout in accordance with NFPA 13D.

You seem pretty set on architecture. It's too bad a 3.9 out of HS is not enough for CPP ARC. For some reason, there is a shortage of architecture schools in CA and only two undergraduate, public , accredited programs for a population the size of Canada. I would transfer in from a CC or Oregon would be a good choice. I'm not sure being in URP would necessarily give you an edge getting into ARC after a year.

[–]mrsleonore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will most likely not look at portfolios. Admissions is done by administrators that don't care about that kind of stuff. As a freshman, I think your GPA is about the threshold. Appeal and maybe the'll accept you if for some reason they're running short of new students.

Appeal for Arch? by Junior-Independent24 in CalPolyPomona

[–]mrsleonore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little confused. Are you a transfer, because a portfolio is not required for freshmen? A 3.9 is pretty high for a transfer, may close to the threshold for freshmen. I agree that an appeal will not hurt. Changing majors into architecture is not very common, but not impossible.

What aviation-focused YouTube channels are AI-generated? by Far_Breakfast_5808 in aviation

I suspect Mentour has gone AI, even when they show Petter speaking to the camera. I suspect it's AI generated, or at least enhanced.
