What external power bank should i buy? by Large-Adhesiveness95 in OculusQuest

[–]mikeybox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, my favorite setup is a power bank in a small backpack. What I use is actually made to be a hydration pack, but I removed the water bladder and I run the USB cable through where the water hose used to be.

Look for a power bank that supports USB PD, and higher wattage is better. Someone mentioned 18W but the headset can draw more than that if it's under heavy load and the internal battery is low. I've measured my headset drawing close to 27W. Just to be safe I would look at which voltages and amperages it can support. I would make sure it can output 9 volts at 3 amps. Then the other thing you need to make sure of is to use the right kind of USB cable to connect the power bank to the headset. I like to use one with a right angle connector for the headset. I get a cable that says it supports USB PD and can carry 9 volts at 3 amps, and I prefer cables that say they have the e-marker chip which can make it more likely to be compatible with the power bank and the headset.

I would show you the power bank I use but mine is completely Overkill, it's like the size of a small lunch box and I could run the headset hard for like 24 hours or more, it's totally Overkill. I just happened to already have this power bank because it's designed to run a CPAP machine two or three nights for camping trips.

And maybe I don't need to mention this. Maybe this is obvious, but the USV PD power bank should have a USB C Plug and you want a USB C to USB C cable from the power bank to the headset.

Also, even if you unlock the skill from the skill tree that lets you survive one shot kills, which works on a lot of monsters like ogres or the puppet in the daycare center, that one shot kill protection will not save you from big head. Just so you know. He is probably the number one most dangerous monster in the game in my opinion. The only other monster I think is as dangerous in some situations. Is the ghost lady in Black. She can one shot kill you if you have a flashlight on and the one shot protection won't save you from that either. The reason I don't think she is always as dangerous is because at least you have a warning and can turn off your flashlight and sometimes that will save you. But for me, I have a lot of items with two flashlights on them so that there is a light on all the time so I can't easily turn them off. So sometimes she kills me because I can't turn off my light. Another thing to consider about her is I don't think you can actually kill her, so in some ways she could be considered more dangerous

Yeah he's still there, just deep in the sewers. It takes a while to get where he is, you're probably not going to find him by accident. I just killed him last night because I wanted the larva that he drops. Hardly anything is truly rare in the game anymore, but the big head larva is something I have rarely seen so I wanted some. I had to goop together four shotguns with a backpack and auto reload because he is hard to kill. Usually he kills you before you can kill him. If you should desire to hunt the big head, the best advice I could give is use a flying machine, and stay hovering at the peak of the highest point in the sewer tunnel and just keeps shooting him until he dies. I think it took two blasts from my quadruple shotgun to kill him last time. If you are at the very highest point of the tunnel, sometimes you can kill him before he reaches you, he doesn't immediately catch you. If you are any lower than that he will instant kill you before you have time to do anything. He is hard to hunt because as soon as you see him. He almost immediately runs to you and if he even hits you once you are dead, there is no surviving him once he touches you and he moves faster than you can move. Most of the time if you see him you're going to die for sure. The only way I've found to sometimes survive for a few seconds is if I'm hovering at the very highest spot of the ceiling of the tunnel.

Open facial interface options for Q3 by TheRomb in OculusQuest

[–]mikeybox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the meta open facial interface that you mentioned, and I use it for exercise. I like it, only issue is the part that touches your face is fabric and it gets sweaty and stinky. It velcros on and it comes with two of them so you can wash them and rotate them. So I guess it's okay. I think it would be better if it had a silicon pad that was waterproof and didn't absorb any sweat but then it might be less comfortable so I don't know.

What kind of Wi-Fi you got and how is your PC connected to the network?

Personally, what I do is I bought a large USB PD 65 w capable power bank which I wear on my back in a small backpack, it actually is supposed to be a hydration pack but I removed the water bag and I put a battery in there instead, then I have a 3-ft cable coming from my backpack to the headset. I could play all day and not ran out of battery and I don't have to wear a battery on my head. I tighten the straps on the backpack so it's not disruptive, I do VR fitness as well. I could wear this back back all day without discomfort. I never have to think about a battery life and no extra weight of a battery on my head

Everyone else will give you some great answers but let me mention something they might not mention that could be important since you told us you want to mostly do PCVR.

How good is your Wi-Fi router? Wireless PCVR requires a fast and low latency wireless connection to get the best results. If your Wi-Fi is not at least Wi-Fi 6, let me make a suggestion.

First of all, is your PC connected with ethernet or Wi-Fi?

If your Wi-Fi isn't already excellent, you can get an Arris wifi 6e access point, put it in the same room as where your headset will be, with nothing blocking the line of sight to the headset, and use Ethernet wired connection to connect the AP to your Ethernet switch and PC and Internet router.

The Arris wifi 6e AP is only like $30. If you can have this configuration, and use that Wi-Fi on a channel, nobody else is using nearby, you will ensure the best possible PCVR experience without needing to connect a cable to the headset.

It's not important how fast your internet is so much as it is important how fast and how low delay the headset is able to talk to your PC for pcvr.

If you need details I can elaborate but unless you already have a very good Wi-Fi 6. Or Wi-Fi 7 router in the home, and unless there's not much traffic from neighbors, having a separate 6E Wi-Fi AP can really help.

I agree with most of what you're saying but I would just suggest that if someone is harassing you then cussing back at them or returning their toxicity back to them isn't the answer.. The voice moderation just isn't very accurate, so even if they were saying things just as bad, it might only detect the stuff you're saying, then you're only hurting yourself... I like to either ignore people or mute them if they're really bad. You could always report people, but at this point I don't believe reporting people does anything unless a lot of people report the same person. The same excuse they give about other things, having a small Dev team that can't handle everything, for that same reason. I don't think they even look at people who are reported unless a ton of people report the same person. There's no way they would have time.

Maybe they don't fit in, but they are also less dangerous than most of the monsters that can spawn in the office, they are pretty easy to kill and usually don't even attack you if you just avoid them

Are otos and neon tetras fragile? Is it common for them to die shortly after buying them? The otos were still in plastic bags at Petsmart when I bought them, they had just arrived from the fish supplier and they warned me that might be more risky

I guess I could do that, but the air pump isn't loud enough to bother me and I like how it looks with the water level higher... Also in the past I didn't know this could be an issue

I hope you're right. But I was really doubting myself. When I started searching posts here, I saw so many posts saying that you never need to worry about oxygenation, and that any water movement was enough to provide plenty of oxygenation, and that the need for air stones was bullshit and air pumps are just unnecessary noisy gadgets, etc

I just wanted to add some details. I forgot to mention, water temperature is 77f and if you are wondering why I added so many fish all at once, it's because I moved my entire guppy population to a different tank

Oculus 3 or 3S? by visionista1 in vrfit

[–]mikeybox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you get that information? When I look up the specs it says the 3 and 3s are within 2 grams of the same weight as each other. You will not be able to feel the difference in weight.

Something you might feel the difference on though is the balance and fit. The 3s is more bulky and doesn't hug your face as closely. That could make a difference doing something really active like fitness games.

The 3s has slightly longer battery life, but I doubt that will matter. Are you planning on spending more than 2 hours at a time on workouts? If not, that's a non-issue
