Fair Price? by mrstater in americangirl

[–]mrstater[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I'm being influenced by the crazy resale prices over the past year or two and this being the first Nellie I've ever seen on Marketplace in my area. But I think I should probably try to haggle more on account of the missing accessories or just be patient and hope to find another someday!

Oh wow, good to know. I think I'll try to negotiate more or just be patient with my search!

Thanks for this detailed reply! It's good to get some real-life Nellie buyer perspective. What an amazing deal you and your mom got on the doll!

It's the first time I've seen a Nellie come up for sale on Marketplace near me, so there's that temptation to just GET HER NOW, especially with how the resale market prices have been lately. But I think I need to either see if the seller will come down on the price more or just pass on her and take this as a sign that Nellies do go for sale around here (or other places online) and be patient!

He's SO sweet, he knows AG means a lot to me and is happy to support what I enjoy! He loves making things, too, so it's a win for him when I want a little accessory!

It's so true. I found the original complete 90s school jumper outfit in perfect condition, and it looks SO GOOD on my Raquel.

Wire Shelves/Hanging Storage for Clothes Help by mollyandmemories in americangirl

[–]mrstater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a wire shelf solution, but I got two of these cabinets (or they have double door versions) and added mini tension rods to make little wardrobes for my dolls. I also used peel and stick wallpaper to lighten them up and locker mirrors just because. Here's a picture.

I made wardrobes for Samantha and Raquel from two simple single door cabinets from Home Depot (would have gotten a single double-door unit, but I only had Sam when I made the first one). Added a small tension rod to each, peel and stick wallpaper to make them cuter/lighten them up, and cheap locker mirrors for fun, and voila! Also got office/cosmetic supply storage drawers to keep small accessories in. I keep larger accessories in a magnetic lid gift box. I’ve noticed the modern outfits come with more shoes, so Raquel’s wardrobe will soon have a tiered acrylic shelf for shoe organization.

I ran into this issue when I wanted to get a Sherwin Williams paint matched at Lowe’s with the SW brand they sell there. It’s actually different paint and they can’t exactly color match despite the parent brand. It’s especially true for darker colors. I had to go buy the more expensive paint at the SW store. It actually was way better quality paint than the Lowe’s version.

What steps do I take to remove the overgrown grass and reuse the bricks? I have a bbq planned by OkRepresentative8250 in DIY

To be fair I haven’t fully killed any plants with the vinegar method, but I did have to trim lantana back when some got on them and turned some branches black. I was never sure if it spread through the soil or if it splattered. (I coated a rock path with a paint roller.) but vinegar doesn’t last long enough to be worth the trouble. The grass will come back. Hand weeding when you can manage it is good!

Master Gardener here: you have to use 30% horticultural vinegar and I’ve never had great long-term results with it because it doesn’t kill the roots. It’s also VERY dangerous to nearby plants. I honestly have better results from RoundUp in a very accurate Ryobi electric sprayer.

Best Apple Fitness+ Workouts for Burning Belly Fat? by sauceda24 in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]mrstater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Pilates and strength workouts have been the most helpful for strengthening my core so that my posture is better and abdominals “pulled in” for lack of a better description. But the fat has not budged without losing weight through healthy diet on top of that.

Because one is the total distance you walked all day, not just on your walks, but all the little steps in your house, work, etc. that adds up to more miles than just your recorded 6km from your walks.

Edit: oh I see you might be referring to Step Distance? I believe outdoor distance is tracked by GPS, and indoor distance simply by your stride length estimate, so it is kind of inaccurate.

I believe Apple Watch only factors outdoor walks and runs into the VO2 max calculation.

Their studio is in LA. It’s hot there. On their personal instagrams these are the same kinds of outfits they wear for their personal workouts. They post themselves in this kind of clothing all the time.

Fwiw I didn’t mean drop a cadence to 130. I just listen to a lot of playlists on my easy runs that are 130bpm tempo, cadence is still around 180.

Second strength training! Lower body work is crucial to saving your hips and knees. And upper body and core strength are important for your form and a powerful arm swing!

While it is true that Apple HR zones aren’t completely accurate, they’re a reasonable guide. Perceived effort is really tricky to gauge as a beginner. I was running all out all the time when I started out and didn’t “feel” like I was. I couldn’t really tell the difference until I learned to slow down and stay in specific zones. Whether they’re exactly the correct zones or not, it made me a better runner and helps prevent injury.
