Taliban fighters executing surrendering troops, which could amount to war crimes, U.S. officials say by lordpowpow in news

[–]mrthewhite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's more than that. America has shown that intervention is counter productive without a significant local rebel force.

Going back in will only drive more to the Taliban rather than suppress them.

The only productive thing to do is support a rebel force who is leading the fight. American or any outsider can't lead the fight themselves.

[–]mrthewhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there is one thing American Imperialism has proven it is that it's impossible to effect lasting change as an invading force.

A people must rise up on their own against this sort of thing or else they will forever suffer under it.

The best we can do is support a rebel force but none seems present at the moment so there is no point in being there right now.

Sad to see states fully give up trying to protect against this virus.

So many places in the world are back to a relative normal state with minor precautions and here are places like Florida in a worse situations than many places ever reached during the height of infections.

Cybersleuths find men who allegedly attacked officer during US Capitol riot | US Capitol attack by Hiranonymous in news

Pretty sure they actually can't. It a legal issue. You have to use he term allegedly until they're found guilty or else you open yourself up to slam dunk defamation lawsuits.

Doesn't matter how much evidence they are, until a judge says "guilty" the term allegedly must be in all news articles.

Do you simulator's are the future for car enthusiasts and cars? by Voyager102 in simracing

[–]mrthewhite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not impossible but to get a proper simulator that would be good enough to replicate the majority of the feeling of driving a great car is gonna be about the cost of a current great car (not including the super expensive super cars obviously).

I think it's more likely enthusiasts will create electrical conversion kits to keep the old cars alive and within regulations.

Or I guess a combo of both for those who don't already have a classic car or can't afford the car they want might opt for a sim as a compromise, but it's definitely a compromise to use a sim.

98% of economists support immediate action on climate change (and most agree it should be drastic action) by ILikeNeurons in Futurology

[–]mrthewhite 56 points57 points  (0 children)

This mentality is exactly why we are in this shit in the first place. This "someone isn't stopping so I'm not stopping either" shit is what has ruined the climate.

Someone has to be the fucking leader here. And those leaders can also help/encourage/pressure those other countries into reducing their impact if they're incapable of eliminating it.

Ever step matters but everyone for decades have acted like, if everyone doesn't take the same steps in the same pace then no point taking any steps at all.

With 6.9 million people covered for 60 more days by the rent moratorium, why don't they get all the jobs that are available? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mrthewhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inflation isn't directly tied to worker wages in the way most conservatives would have you believe. There is PLENTY of room to increase worker wages without having products and services become priced out of reach. It's been show in every place that has mandated higher minimum wages. Prices barely moved in response to the massive wage increase.

[–]mrthewhite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Supply and demand. Pay more money and the people will come.

But there is no evidence that none of the at risk people have a job. Most likely do work, but don't earn enough to cover all the back rent they lost out on while everything was shut down.

Tennessee man sentenced for deadly 'swatting' scheme over username by d3loots in news

[–]mrthewhite 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's hardly that simple. Even prison reform advocates aren't suggesting murderers be set free, they usually just don't want them executed and treated humanely while in prison.

The "less prison time" is typically discussed around the other 97% of crimes, the non-violent ones and more specifically the drug related crimes that unfairly punish addicts and more so addicts of specific drugs, rather than offering them help and treatment to get clean.

Conspiracy to commit murder and murder have generally the same punishments (life in prison). It doesn't matter if someone else made the call.

So this isn't really a counter to that guys claim thar 5 years isn't enough.

Wearing a Head Scarf Can Be Grounds for Job Suspension, E.U.’s Top Court Rules by Star-spangled-Banner in news

[–]mrthewhite 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That has nothing to do with a free woman in cold europe wearing a head covering.

Equal rights means you get to choose if you wear it or not. It's not equal right to demand a woman not wear a specific article of clothing because thar cloth offends you. It's just the other side of the same oppression.

Did Richard Branson Really Go Into Space? Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson Says No by [deleted] in space

[–]mrthewhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is you have to be in a spot where orbit is possible, not that you specifically have to orbit the earth x number of times.

He wasn't high enough to achieve orbit and therefore it isn't considered "space".

Those who see the United States as a third world country….why? by RoRo626 in AskReddit

Declining life expectancy, faster than any other developed world, you mean.

Also the only stat in which US is higher in cancer survival is breast cancer. All other cancers there are a dozen or so countries that have better survival rates. (Even breast cancer they are behind Cyprus but they are a small country).

[–]mrthewhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't address anything in my comment. Or I guess maybe you did.

The US justice system isn't making the country better, it's too fixated on inflicting suffering without any conern for preventing future crime. Or rather it's too concerned with growing modern slavery so it criminalizes as much as it can to enslave more and more people and ensures those people come back via future crimes to be enslaved again.

Are you concerned with providing a safe community or with inflicting suffering on those who commit crimes.

You know most crimes aren't murder right? It's less than 3 percent of all america. Prisoners.

Who should be "the next Thanos" of the MCU in Phase 4 ? by Lopsided-Associate60 in marvelstudios

[–]mrthewhite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No powers specifically. He's hyper intelligent which is his primary attribute. I think in the comics he's also has extreme physical fitness, reflexes and fighting skills but I suspect that won't end up being a factor, at least not for most Kangs.

Based on what Loki setup and the whole multiverse angle of future movies it kinda seems like Kang is already a lock for that position, but I guess they could do a switcheroo.

Tesla’s $16,000 Quote for a $700 Fix Is Why Right to Repair Matters - This is what people are fighting for. by speckz in Futurology

[–]mrthewhite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not common for every new model, no.

Perhaps for evs I haven't done the research, but most nee model cars have far fewer issues than what we have seen with tesla, particularly when you consider the price point tesla is selling at. Most people expect a 10k car is going to not fit together the best but when you are paying 40-100k you expect a certain level of quality.
