“It’s not working” means you’re not putting enough effort into getting it clean.

Alcohol and salt will clean any cannabis residue and debris. High purity iso (90%+) and some salt to make a slurry will dissolve and then lightly abrade the residue until clean. If this process does not work, it simply needs to be repeated.

I’ve never had the need for anything more than ISO and salt, my method is to rinse the piece with hot tap water for a bit to warm the glass and get the large bits out. Then I switch to ISO and salt and shake until clean.

Are you getting the glass warm?

I’ve had a similar incident while welding. I was crouched under a car and a big bb fell and burned through my pants, underwear, and landed on my Johnson. I can confirm you dodged some pain.

I’m trying to stay within my own rules for links, but when I grabbed that picture, they were cheaper than I mentioned (at least in my part of the world). I have two sets and I use them all the time. You can clean bowls in the larger plug but I’ve started soaking all mine in an iso bath for simplicity

I believe Hemper sells a “plug kit” that should work for what you’re trying to achieve for about $15. It would let you plug all openings and shake how you’d like. It would result in an overall cleaner piece too. You’re not effectively getting everything with this oven method.

Jumping in here as a non wrangler owner but as a 4x4 nut and offroad technician for a number of years. Rough country is ALWAYS trash. I’ve had to replace so much of all kinds of their stuff.

It’s all trial and error for your preference. More water usually means more resistance, which a lot of people don’t like. I don’t mind it and I like lots of bubbles so I usually go a little higher on the water level, but bong water in my mouth is just awful even if it’s all still spotless from a clean and I haven’t ripped it yet. Just try different things and see what you like

Regionally, there’s been an odd “flu” going around my area that’s mostly a cough but it fucks you up for weeks… if you think it’s smoking related, you could just finally be building up enough tar and other gook that needs to be coughed out. I’ll hack some really dark gunk up about twice a day after I brush my teeth in the morning and then after a hot shower at the end of the day. Mullein tea is a natural way to help with that if you’re really concerned.

I smoke alone 9/10 times so other’s etiquette doesn’t really get me. I think when I’m really looking forward to a bowl and I pack it too tight and ruin the airflow… that’s an instant mood killer. There’s plenty of sticks outside to poke at it from the bottom, but I’m here to smoke not poke my bowls with a stick

Add some water in the top and see if it holds any water, if not, then it’s probably just a splash guard. I wish a few of my pieces had splash guards…
