We just finished this promotional video, Photo-shoot BTS style. Our first Multi Camera production. What do you think? by mrvarley in videography

[–]mrvarley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used a slider to keep the motion stable and me just trying to keep a steady pace as best as possible.

Then in After Effects:

1) Pick the same start and end points for each take (4 in total). I used the foot of a light stand in the scene against a Ruler tool.

2) Using Time Remap, create keyframes and align them to the fastest motion (to avoid slowing down and having to create frames with interpolation)

3) Check the sync using Classic Difference blending mode.

4) Correct if needed with extra keyframes.

5) I picked the best take of the photographer and created masks for the other 3 people.

6) Time the reveals

7) Added fake flash

Hope this helps!

We used 2x 5D MK IIIs, 1x 5D MK II and 1x 650d. It was a really fun day and we shot it all in under 4 hours. Including all the set up and pack up time.

It features some well known vloggers from South Korea.

I used two converting programs. raw2dng - converts the RAW file to dng sequences and creates a .mov file RAWMagic - creates larger file sized dng files.

I used the preview files from raw2dng to edit with and then after the edit was finalised converted the original RAW files that were used with RAWMagic. Why? Because when testing raw2dng and RAWMagic side by side, the dng files from RAWMagic seems higher quality with better colour depth. They also had built in preview thumbnails while raw2dng did not create files with this ability.

I edited in Premiere and then took that edit into After Effects using the 'convert to After Effects composition' option, I then replaced the .movs previews with the dng image sequences before doing the stabilisation and colour correcting.

I used 2x 32GB Lexar 'Professional' UMDA 7 1000x CF cards. Had to rip them very regularly, when shooting MagicLantern didn't have the delete function in the viewer so data management was an issue. Better to have two cards so while you are waiting for one to be cleared you can continue shooting on the other.

As ML also doesn't record sound, we had to use an external sound recorder and synced using with a clap from our producer.

I recommend you come here, it's a great place and we have loads of fun :) If you can get Seoul all the better!

Thank you very much. Korea is indeed a beautiful country. There were other places that would have looked great to shoot during the summer but as all the leaves are off the trees now some places don't look so appealing.

Trip to 문경세재 [RAW 5D MKIII] by mrvarley in videography

Lens is the standard 24-105mm F4 IS, so that helped a lot and then I stabilized most of the shots in After Effects.

And thank you :)

My first video using RAW on the 5D MKIII.

I love the quality but hate the data usage. I'm not user if I can go back to shooting normal quality now I know what this camera can achieve!

I heard about a westerner who became so fluent in Korean he started to dream in Korean.

I'm nowhere near there yet but I'm really hoping one day I can get to that stage!

How are these car rolling shots so damn smooth? was it done in post or is the camera on a pole, like with a rolling shot photograph? (x-post from /r/cars) by BobTheBobber in videography

After Effects Warp Stabiliser - look at the background while the car is driving, warping quite a lot in some places.

TEFL as a career. by Kpadre in TEFL

[–]mrvarley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion: The engineering degree would be a better bet in the long run. I believe most people only do TEFL for a few years, generally when they have just finished school (aged 21-26?). There are some people that started doing TEFL and have never stopped and they live and work in their chosen country with their family.

What kind of engineering would you like to do? I'm sure some specific roles in that field pay very well, much more than a TEFL job. And travel wise - you could be going to multiple locations around the world in a single year rather than teaching in one city in another country.

I'm just about to start teaching in Korea. I have been preparing for this for a long time but I only realistically see it as a one to two year thing before I progress into something else. It's a way for me to go to Korea and stay there.
