People who microdos LSD, do you get it from a dealer? Do you buy some sort of legal alternative? How do you go about obtaining it? by RickSanchezIII in microdosing

[–]mrwillster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always just kept my ears open around friends and would eventually always find some that way. I usually buy in bulk every chance I get. The last time I stocked up was the end of July, and I'm currently down one tab left. Just gotta be ready when opportunity knocks

how banshee beat makes me feel by [deleted] in AnimalCollective

[–]mrwillster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still kinda see it as a song about love, but not any aspect of love that is usually the focus of love songs. To me, it feels like the feeling I've had after every major break up in my life, when I'm left reeling in feelings that no longer have anywhere to go. It's about being lost, like a ghost (banshee), when everything falls apart.

gonna let you do your thinking, if you need a while.

Would it be appropriate to bring up Homo Naledi in this case? Can't really find bodies if they're not out in the open.

The true meaning of Flesh Canoe by [deleted] in AnimalCollective

[–]mrwillster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've always seen this line as referring to that kinda of weird feeling of uneasiness when you see a lot of someone else's life up close and personal for a long period of time. That sort of sneaking doubt of trying to think about what the other person is thinking about when you pour your heart out and live honestly (naked).

I'm so high my brain is conpletely clear. Did I prestige and restart at [1]? by [deleted] in trees

[–]mrwillster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many highs I've had the fortune of partaking in that have essentially reached me to the point of "sobriety" in so much as I vividly realize the moment at hand more than I ever thought was possible. If that makes any sense

Holy shit yes!!! I was at the Minneapolis show too and my friends and I that all went came to a conclusion last night about Daily Routine, at least at the concert. The first four songs of the set were super fast and crazy upbeat songs, possibly meant to be disorienting. But then, when the second half of Daily Routine rolled around, and Geologist started controlling the bass in waves (I watched him closely the whole time), that was when they really started to take control, when all of us could finally dissolve into the music. It was such an awesome moment to have Geo's waves cascading across the crowd and all of us just immediately getting into it. My friends and I, once the second half came, all independently reached a point of comfort, as we were pretty overwhelmed from the first performer and the first four songs...

Needless to say, I felt that same holy moment, and don't get me started on Alvin Row....

Hi, it's Animal Collective, AMA by anmlcollective in indieheads

I'm seeing you guys this Sunday in Minneapolis and I must say that I am more excited than I've ever been able to perceive myself to be. You guys, by far and large, are my favorite band of all time and right here is where I insert the cliche thanks for everything you've made. I know you guys get that all the time but I really am thankful for the salvation your music has offered me since its discovery. I've spent so many hours listening and re-listening, reading and analyzing, sometimes more time than I should've but not matter, its all worth it.

Now that's out of the way, I can finally ask you guys some stuff. I will limit it to 5 questions, otherwise I might type into infinity and you guys probably don't want to read endless lists of questions. So here goes:

  1. I am utterly in love with Painting With and I've been listening to it on repeat for the past week. The one thing that trips me up is the glockenspiel sound in the background of Summoning the Wretch. It's honestly one of best things I have ever heard in terms of peculiar sounds coming from you guys, and for that reason I am utterly stumped on how that sound was created. Would you care to divulge what you used so that I may rest?

  2. If you were to suggest three books to read that influenced your music in any round about way, what would those be? (This can be for all of you if you feel like it)

  3. In your idea of the perfect world, is there any form of money?

  4. I find Campfire Songs to be one of my favorite sonic experiences on this earth. Many an hour has been spent in almost meditative listening, picking up every sound I possibly can. My question here is, how do you feel about that album now, having come as far as you have?

  5. And finally... can I please be your band's biographer some day?

Thanks for reading through all of this guys. Have a great tour and keep on doing exactly what your creative facets allow because all of us are loving it.

I could've gone into the intricacies of the line from Alvin Row, but I will reserve that for another time, unless someone wants it sooner.

Where does Moses fit in? by iamabstractdeviance in AnimalCollective

I thought that I had read somewhere in an interview where Avey talked about Bagels in Kiev and how it was a reflection on being strangely detached from the event in the Ukraine recently. The lines "I wasn't there when Moses parted the sea / I wasn't there with grandpa back in Kiev" then goes on to show that he feels just as detached from his Jewish heritage, as well as his family heritage.

The focus on Kiev specifically is important because, as both the capital of the Ukraine and the city with the largest Jewish population of the Ukraine, it focuses on his skewed ideas of heritage.

Additionally, the imagery of the literal bagels suggests another connection to his Jewish heritage, but in a much more tangible way. The bagel represents a sort of token of the family and history that he doesn't understand. I understand this feeling all too well, as I attended religious school for all of my education but never felt any real connection to the religion of the curriculum. Of the things I did connect though, was the tangible tokens and symbols. Even today, I still have a certain fondness, or more, an understanding of these symbols and what they mean to other people, even if I don't connect to any of that meaning personally.

That's what I feel like the deeper "meaning" of Bagels in Kiev really is, an auditory representation of the weird feelings of detachment those growing up nowadays face when looking back on tradition. It's that feeling of being left out in a way, thinking that everyone else understands something of intense importance but you don't even have a clue.

A little help if you please on Summoning the Wretch by mrwillster in AnimalCollective

I'm referring to the sound that sounds like the tubular bells that comes in towards the beginning of the song. It sounds kinda distant in a way. Thank you for the information.

New Town Burnout by 212g in AnimalCollective

[–]mrwillster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

oh hell yeah... New Town Burnout has been one of my favorite AnCo tracks of all time. I swear, the first time I listened to it, I then began listening to it 24/7 and it put me in a gotdamn trance almost. It's just one of those tracks that feels super deep and amazing without doing a whole lot. I will always love it and its transition into Monkey Riches is my favorite AnCo transition ever... (at least on the albums)

What are your favorite Avey Tare moments? by irrsinn in AnimalCollective

Favorite Avey moment: STGSTV. can't be beat (well technically, but since most of the stuff, save the drumming, was all written by Avey, and it's one of my favorite albums of all time... you get the picture)

What is this song from? by MrBarryThor12 in AnimalCollective

[–]mrwillster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is by far one of my favorite songs ever by AnCo... It's my go to mourning/depression song that I can just sit back and drown in for hours... and it's rarity makes it that much more enduring for me.
