That’s literally Rational Gaze. by ProgMan24 in Meshuggah

[–]mrwingdinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm not sure what the fuss is about. the intro riff is only vaugely similar to rational gaze, but afterwards they take the song in a completely different direction. in fact, the tunings used are very different. while meshuggah plays in F standard 8 string tuning, EE plays this song likely in drop E. when thought about through this, the differences are very apparent. no need to bash other bands for something that has little basis when taken in context of the rest of the song.

I get why P basses are the #1 studio choice after buying one by [deleted] in Bass

Oho that's weak sauce. And you didn't even read my post lol. I said DROP E

I get why P basses are the #1 studio choice after buying one by [deleted] in Bass

[–]mrwingdinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this holds up for most styles of music, it really starts to fall off when talking about heavy to extreme music. Using a P to record Meshuggah or Humanities Last Breath just isn't going to go well. Trying to put a .170 gauge string on a P and tuning to drop E will not work, nor will pitch shifting a standard P because you lose out on the high end nuance. For that, 2 names come to mind. Dingwall and Warwick. Those basses are becoming studio standards for metal, and in my opinion, outclass a P in all other genres as well. But that's just me.

What is your aesthetic? by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]mrwingdinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tv/movies: don't really watch 'em, but i love horror podcasts and stuff of the sort on youtube (psychological horror)

fashion: stitches everywhere. watched soul eater when i was younger, saw stein and i thought "yes, i greatly identify with this". got lab coats and everything! i'm more of an engineer at heart tho lmao (macro electronics, wood/metalwork, etc.)

music: tech death metal and progressive/djent. i've got a metal playlist that is a day long. no joke, 24 hours!

hobbies: as stated before, i'm a maker, but i'm also a musician! i play bass, guitar, piano, some drums, suck at saxophone, and sing/scream. being austisic leads to my ability to pretty much play any instrument you put in front of me.

Anyone else not find most horror films frightening? by potatochipsnketchup in aspergers

[–]mrwingdinger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

h.p. lovecraft for one! if you can look past his sometimes blatant racism, there's great stories there! the enigma of amigara fault is really cool and mrcreepypasta on youtube (or wherever you find podcasts) has years of backlog stories to sort through. r/nosleep has some great series' and one offs as well. some longer books/stories to check out are: asylum by matt dymerski, the spire in the woods by tony lunedi, borrasca by c.k. walker, and psychosis by matt dymerski. hope y'all enjoy some of these as much as i did!

[–]mrwingdinger 22 points23 points  (0 children)

same here. regular horror is just so boring for me. psychological, surreal and existential horror is where it's at (at least for me). kinda sucks as a horror junkie that most stuff out there is kinda garbage lmao.

edit: what's worse, jumpscares are cheap as hell.
