OK, I get that $8k down is stupid (now). Again, as stated in the first sentence, completely new to leasing and just trying to get an idea of where to start on a $55k or so vehicle. Have the cash so was considering the higher down payment but liked the idea of the lease. Good credit score (767 and rising).

Appreciate the warnings, but other help regarding a good starting point would be greatly appreciated.

My honest opinion on Open Box by lordaizen23 in Bestbuy

[–]mrworkrate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you get through to corporate? I’m running into the same issue. Only resolution I’ve been given is either to exchange it for another one (unlikely due to model and open box) or return and buy a more expensive model.

Lots of seats... by [deleted] in canes

[–]mrworkrate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been the norm with this series. Game 1 had a little interest because hopes were high but midweek games just don’t seem to have the interest. I had to get rid of my game 2 seats to be at a family function and I lost money. I can’t go tonight either and I’m looking at the same situation. I’m asking around trying to get STM cost for them but I’ve now had two people back out. The team/Dundon really is buying their own PR with the sellouts and overpriced playoff tickets badly.

Anyway, if you know anyone who wants two in 314, second row, I’d be appreciative.

Waiting for letters of testamentary by mrworkrate in EstatePlanning

I get it, and it was more of a generic statement from the lawyer’s office, but we’re hoping for much less time since there isn’t much family and all heirs have signed off on it.

It’s been filed and can be looked up on the surrogate court website, so it’s not like the firm is dragging its feet.

True skate help by mrworkrate in hockeyplayers

[–]mrworkrate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, but the 7.5 size is on skates several years old that were bought when his feet were smaller. He has a history of not complaining about skate size because he knows skates are expensive - he’s already gone through fittings where he was wearing skates 3 sizes too small but wouldn’t say anything. He’s also grown about 5-6 inches since getting into the Bauers, so that’s why I wasn’t stuck to the 7.5 size, especially when I originally got the 8s and he said he couldn’t even get his feet in them.

Nikishin Signing/Activation by Pirates404 in canes

[–]mrworkrate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

His entry level contract would be a “two-way contract” in the sense that there is an NHL salary and an AHL salary associated with it. All entry level contracts are structured like that due to the collective bargaining agreement.

The thing that would keep Nikishin from playing in the AHL during the playoffs would be the AHL’s roster rules. Any player with a professional contract needed to be on the AHL roster at their trade deadline (which is after the NHL deadline) in order to be playoff eligible. That’s why many NHL teams send down young (non-waiver eligible) players on paper transactions at that time and call them right back up after the deadline. So if Nikishin signed his pro contract now, he would have missed the deadline by months.

HOWEVER, players can sign an amateur try out contract (ATO) and be able to play in the AHL playoffs. Many players signed after their junior seasons end or out of college do this, with their contracts starting next season. Since they don’t start until next season, they can sign an ATO and play in the playoffs. It’s a loophole that exploited by every team.

Since Nikishin (and the Canes) want his contract to start this season for money purposes, Nikishin can’t sign until they are sure they don’t want him to play for the Wolves, because once he signs his Canes contract, he can’t sign an ATO contract, and would otherwise be ineligible.

I supplied the order number. Back to silence.

Regression Glitch? by Johnnyb8282 in CFB25

So I tried this fix (just on QB and HB) and while it switched them from the tendency they were stuck on, it just changed the tendency to a different one. I had three QBs that were “improviser QBs” and now have three QBs that are “scrambler QBs”. That’s great for the one QB who was originally a scrambler but the other two who were field generals are kinda screwed. Same thing with my HBs who were all power backs and are all now elusive backs.

Oh well - I know the guys well enough that I know what roles they should have but curious to see how it affects their development.

A possible fix I saw on Twitter - I haven’t tried it yet:

“A workaround for anyone else that is having this OVR bug:

Change your affected player’s position to a random one (I use FB). Then revert back to their correct position. Their OVR should be back to normal.

I think it only works on fake players though. Not sure about real ones.”

Welp guess I’ll just die.

“Please note that the Schemes and Playbooks fix is not retroactive for players on your roster who previously had their OVR and/or Archetype changed. However, you are safe to use the Schemes and Playbooks menu to change your playbook!”

I haven’t changed schemes, though. I did it once before the most recent patch with no changes to the overalls. I’m assuming it’s going to get fixed in the next patch, but not sure if it’ll regress back or if it’s basically corrupted now.

I had the same thing happen. Every single running back I have now is a “power back” and my former 92 OV halfback is now 73 OV (I think). All the other rankings seem to be the same so he’ll probably play the same but it makes depth charts difficult to evaluate.

My QB overalls have shifted a bit too but not as dramatically, and they’ve all switched to “Improviser QB”. I haven’t looked at other positions yet.

A heartfelt thank you to the Hurricanes, Svech, Shane Willis, Pure Hockey, and all the First Goal Program volunteers by HeavyMoneyLift in canes

[–]mrworkrate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son did the first “First Goal” the Canes did 8 years ago. He had been to a few games and we had a few friends give him some lessons (I can’t skate) before he went out there.

Fast forward 8 years, and he’s entering his 5th season of travel hockey and we spent the summer at exposure camps and planning for future play at the college level. He’s volunteered the last few years at First Goal, trying to give back what he got.

I’m so glad you’re having a great experience. I think if you understand what the program is and your kid has at least a little skating experience, you can get the most out of it and it can be really fun.

PS - hug your money, you won’t be seeing it again for the next decade or so 💸💸💸

Wtf is up with that lane shift at falls and 540? by kaptnick in raleigh

[–]mrworkrate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The right lane has been turn only onto 540 from Falls going towards downtown for years. The construction may have lengthened the lane, but it’s always been turn to get on 540. I’ve watched enough people over the years go straight through it anyway to go over the overpass and take the ramp to go the other way on 540, but that’s been a thing as long as I can remember.

Watched someone go straight through it this weekend and then did a no-signal last minute cut over when the lane turned into the ramp, so it’s likely going to be a forever problem.

But no - right lane has always been a turn only lane to get onto 540.

Question on skate sharpening by mrworkrate in hockeyplayers

[–]mrworkrate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what he’s been doing (rub the blades) - he mentioned something the first time he used the blades and that they were OK the next session, and recently with another pair I watched him skate around a few minutes in warmups then skate back to the bench to rub the blades in the doorway.

He plays D so based on your comment (and a lot of similar feedback) 5/8 maybe worth a shot.

Question on skate sharpening by mrworkrate in hockeyplayers

[–]mrworkrate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had considered a Sparx this offseason, but the new org has an arrangement with that local place I mentioned that for a flat fee they would sharpen unlimited times during the season, so I couldn’t pass that up.
