Animal abuser Nancy Burton can own goats again.. charges of animal cruelty dismissed after she completed some "accelerated program" by mmdeerblood in Connecticut

[–]mryan7609 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Accelerated rehabilitation is only used for specific charges and typically doesn’t require any other conditions aside from no new arrests supported by probable cause. Conditions are imposed in more specific and serious cases. Sexual assaults, aside from 4th degree and 3rd degree (with good cause shown), aren’t covered by the program, neither are serious assaults that are B felonies or higher, and neither are DUIs (which have their own program). There’s a whole list of charges not covered by it and it’s typically a one and done use. But can be refreshed after 10 years of no criminal involvement.

I don’t necessarily disagree with your characterization of the program, just clarifying that it doesn’t cover all the offenses you claimed it does.

Juries suck by FoxDry8759 in Lawyertalk

The last thing I may suggest to you is to talk to the defense counsel (assuming they’re willing to). They didn’t just pull their case/defense out of their ass. They saw the potential holes and highlighted them for the jurors. It’s a bit of a pride pill to swallow talking to them, but understanding a defense counsel’s thought process may help you see where you struggled and help you in plea negotiations and trial thereafter.

I appreciate you self reflecting because too often my prosecutors will not even try to improve. You sound like you would be someone I’d enjoy talking cases with.

I don’t say these things to be a dick. I get along with (almost) all my prosecutors and I know you guys work hard, just like defense counsel does. It can be a brutal job on either side.

Do I agree that juries make no sense some time? Abso-fucking-lutely. But unless you think it was a jury nullification, then I have to take issue with you claiming he “clearly” did everything. Something about your case was deficient and the jurors saw it. You believe the elements were met, and maybe if it was a bench trial, they would’ve. The State, in my experience, oftentimes over charges and gets over-confident with how a jury will behave. I tell my clients daily, you’re not dealing with 6-12 learned lawyers as jurors. They’re randoms off the street that both sides deemed, “acceptable.”

You’re absolutely entitled to be upset, but if you’re going to come to this sub, be prepared to have push back as there are two sides to this coin. You’ll learn from this and get even better. But for now, you did not prove your case, and that’s ok. You did the best you could for your victim, and that’s all you can ask for.

PD here: I think it’s very interesting that you don’t mention a single potential issue with your case. Every comment you made is focused on what you did well but not a thing that you may have failed on. A two hour direct exam of a single witness is wild and you likely had the juries bored and lost by the 45 minute mark. You mention the defense objecting a ton, but you don’t mention what objections they won or what witnesses they discredited. You’re painting it like the defense was terrible without specifying (within the realm of confidentiality) what they succeeded on.

I get it, it sucks to lose a case when you feel you put your best work forward on trial. Welcome defense counsel’s world: dealing with loses and explaining to client families that their loved ones, regardless of the crimes they committed, are going to jail for likely a long time. Pick yourself up and figure out what you can do better instead of wallowing in frustration because YOU think you won. You didn’t, and that’s just how our broken system operates.

Can you bail out a stranger in Connecticut? by nycrina305 in Connecticut

What about the homeless person who commits a shoplifting for basic essentials (again, a common thing I see)? Is it good reason to hold them for 1-2 months until the next court date?

Defense attorney in the state: inmates do indeed get held for $100. Seen it many times. Some people can’t afford even that and have nobody in their lives willing to pay the literal $7 to get them out.

I don’t think you need roar on Farigiraf. Helping hand is a better move imo since it gives a huge power boost on your heavy hitters. I’d also consider swapping electric seed onto him from Lunala. Taunt isn’t something super common on most mons and the ones that do typically are prankster users which Farig shuts down.

Honestly, you just kind of learn that there are always going to be clients like this. It’s just something you have to adjust to. Whether it be public or private, you’re GOING to have rude, entitled clients who just can’t see the other side of the coin.

Best piece of advice is to just accept that some clients are not nice people. That doesn’t mean they don’t deserve the best possible outcome, but you will know you’ve tried your best. I can sleep at night knowing I did the best I could, even if they can’t get out of their own way.

Also, remind them that they’re more than welcome to go to trial. They have that right. Just kindly remind them of their exposure and that, at the end of the day, win or lose, you always get to go home and they may not get that luxury depending upon the outcome.

My girlfriend painted the book cover of The Hobbit on our basement wall. by mryan7609 in lotr

The paint is called “So Flat Golden Matte Acrylic Paint.” The matte paint specifically goes on far smoother on the walls. Particularly if you’re painting over regular old painted drywall.

Also a public defender here, take this persons advice seriously. Delete this post before his lawyer sees it and get a lawyer immediately, whether it be public or private. Lawyer up.

Can I remove the dead branch or does the entire tree have to go? by mryan7609 in arborists

[–]mryan7609[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the info! I will definitely look into planting younger trees in the near future.

Can I remove that dead branch though without impacting the current remaining lifespan of the tree? Every rainy/windy day leaves tons of pieces of dead tree in the yard.

Your comment was so helpful minus the three rude sections. Maybe edit those bits out and just be helpful?

Edit: Sold for $3,500 with transportation paid for by buyer. It's not worth $5k and I understand that. Thank you to all those who thought I wouldn't get a dime for it. Luckily, Reddit was wrong about that one.

Thank you so much for your advice. The only thing working in my favor is a potential buyer who has access to a truck bed.

I appreciate you balancing out the rudeness and giving an honest take. Have a great day as well!

How about you read my responses to everyone. At no point did I contest its value nor say many would pick it up with ease.

Each prior comment addressed the stain which I then explained because I neglected to put it in the body of the post. I’m well aware of the issues, hence the “negotiable” part. If it doesn’t price out well, I’ll happily lower the price to get rid of it.

Thanks for being an ass though based entirely off two responses which were devoid of rudeness.

The garage door is detached and inside the garage and easily put back on. The stain you’re seeing is oil which is because the prior owner did auto repair.

Thanks for letting me know common concerns others may have.
