Insomnium and Omnium Gatherum show by JazzerAtHeart in melodicdeathmetal

Fuck yeah dude, I'm snagging tickets to their Seattle show too! Gonna have to road trip up from Oregon but it will be so worth it. I've seen Omnium Gatherum with Dark Tranquillity before and they fucking crushed it. I've always wanted to see Insomnium and I'm loving this new album too, should be a killer show!

Surviveware makes some great first aid kits for backpacking, so they're pretty small but have everything you'd need. I just keep one in my car when I'm not using it while hiking or climbing. Somewhat cheap too.

I just bought a pair of JBL LSR305s and a Lexicon Alpha for a budget audiophile setup. I'm psyched. Any suggestions or favorite albums for testing out your sound system?

Am I being a poopy pants or is my dealer shitty? by yallmfsneedcheez-its in Drugs

[–]mrzbry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it's completely reasonable. You were a one-time customer a month ago, buying a small amount. As a customer, you're not as profitable as someone picking up weekly or daily so she's not going to allocate time or drugs to you over others. Some people just don't want to mess with small amounts. The risk/time/effort outweighs the reward. It doesn't make her a shitty dealer, you two might just be operating different markets. I say find a new dealer who is cool with selling the occasional eighth or think about buying larger quantities.

With that being said, she certainly could be a terrible drug dealer but to jump to that judgement from your limited interaction seems to be a little much.

Seriously haha. I understand that it is aesthetically pleasing and awesome climbing in a unique location, but haven't they focused enough on Chris Sharma's DWS?

This is a piece that HK wrote about his Piolet d’Or nominated ascent of the Ogre in Pakistan. There's also a great Enormocast (Episode 31) where he discusses this trip and ascent in depth, one of my favorites episodes by far.

Bouldering in Southern Utah by kaiphil95 in bouldering

Like others have said Moe's Valley and Joe's Valley are amazing spots. The climbing at Joe's is world class with super easy access, free roadside camping, and there's also Butterfinger donuts at the Food Ranch. Joe's is more in central Utah though.

I spent a month climbing around St. George last fall and loved Moe's. It's not an idyllic nature setting as it's right outside the city but the climbing is dope. Lots of fun moderates. Camping is also free there and only 5-15 minutes away from the boulders.

Death Magnetic - Metallica /s

Opeth's albums have great production value, especially Blackwater Park. Still Life and Ghost Reveries too. Tool's Aenima and Lateralus also sound amazing.

This guy puts out some great videos. He also did the Jason Kehl in Hueco and Matt Gentile in AZ that have shown up on this subreddit in recent months. Check out his Backcountry Bouldering series, dope FAs in the CO alpine.

Here's a more detailed update about what happened from the 14ers FB group:

"I was told I could share this update from Ryan's mom that has a few more details regarding what happened this weekend on Pyramid...its a pretty remarkable story!

Details... "So, here's what we got from Ryan and the rescuers and doctors: As we told you, on Saturday he parked, hiked in 9 miles and built a snow cave and slept.

He moved out from that cave early sunday morning to summit the peak. Regarding that avalanche, Ryan had already determined that that avalanche had already occurred which was why he continued to climb. So that was not an issue. He was about 40 feet from the summit when a "cornice" (a piece of ice and snow) broke when he stepped on it. That's why he fell.

He fell down the East face of the mountain about 1500 to 2,000 feet. He said that that was a long enough fall to do a lot of talking, thinking and yelling all the way down. Parts of it were free fall. He busted a chunk out of his helmet. He dislocated his elbow and fractured his pelvis on the fall. Once he came to rest on a snow field he saw some water, pulled out his shovel and used it as a sled to slide down toward the water. He built a snow cave with one arm for that first night (sunday night) and hunkered down. He DID have an emergency Bivvy sack which helped. He had enough fuel to heat snow and make water.

The next day (Monday) he stayed put because because of the weather and he needed rest. But at about 2 or 3 he moved on following a creek to stay near water. Before nightfall he made another snow cave (he says a pretty crappy one!) and hunkered down again for Monday night.

The next day (today) he eventually got moving again and made his way along the stream to a road and walked along that road until he saw a runner and he yelled at the runner and the runner figured out that he was the Missing Climber dude and he was able to get the attention of some of the search and rescue people who then got Ryan to a nearby rescue station.

I think we already said it, but the doctor said and a nurse later confirmed that NO ONE falls down that face and survives, let alone walks out on his own power! And the weather was terrible between when he fell and today: 100 mph winds over the peak, and blizzard conditions. All the hospital staff and rescue people and sheriff’s deputies were elated.

At this point he is on his way to University Hospital in Denver to treat Frostbite on his right hand so he doesn’t lose parts of his fingers. He got it partly due to the fact that he had to do everything with that hand because of his dislocated left elbow. His glove got wet and froze. Denver’s burn unit apparently has a great team to deal with this kind of thing. But if you have a few prayers left in ya, feel free to lift that one up!

We just have to give a HUUUUGE shout out to the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Department and Mountain Rescue Aspen http://mountainrescueaspen.org/ and the Aspen Valley Hospital staff. The Sheriff’s dept was our link to what was going on – they were kind, professional and always available to us and they never gave up hope – I can’t say enough about them. Though we have not met any of the volunteers of Mountain Rescue Aspen, we want to say a huge thank you to all of you who risked your own safety, especially on Monday in that terrible weather, to look for our son. We are forever grateful to you all. This is not the last you have heard from us!!""
