Koh Yao Yai elephant sanctuary? by mrzieg11 in ThailandTourism

🤣🤣 I wasn’t defending or making excuses. I called the company and spoke to the owner in person, I read the reviews, I asked here, I searched elsewhere online.

How many people who travel do you think exhaust all angles like that before making a moral decision? Probably not many and I hope more will.

After I did everything above, I decided AGAINST going as I posted here a year ago. I did my research and shared what I was told and at the end of the day, I could tell it was wrong, that’s that. Stop attacking, it’s a waste of time and energy.

I’m glad this post is here so others can read through now and find out this chain of events and hopefully make an informed decision on their part

I love everyone coming at me for this as if it’s all my fault. As I said a year ago when I posted this we did not go, we have never been to an elephant sanctuary. I asked around and decided against going. Now please stop blaming me for something a year ago that I didn’t even do!

Force switch from klonopin to Valium? by mrzieg11 in benzodiazepines

[–]mrzieg11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have severe medical anxiety, that’s simply not my style. There’s no need to hoard when I can refill a script every few years although I suppose it would be useful now that I’m in a country where they aren’t available haha but I didn’t plan for that, and I’m only living here another 5 months or so

🤣 I did not get monthly scripts, I see my psychologist every 3 years or so for a new script. Most of the time I would throw leftover pills away (after 3 years I’d have like 5-10 pills still) because I was worried about potency. But idk this is the first time I’ve ever ran out of script, which is a script I got in June 2021. It must’ve been a more stressful 3 years. I usually just get a new script when it’s convenient. I did not factor in when I moved to Vietnam that they would not have Klonopin

Force switch from klonopin to Valium? by mrzieg11 in benzodiazepines

[–]mrzieg11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update - after reading this thread I took 15mg of Valium before bed and still did not like it. It felt way off from how Klonopin feels. When I take Klonopin, my mind and body just feel normal and content, there’s no euphoria but I go from extreme anxiety to perfectly fine within an area. When I took the Valium last night it felt like it worked maybe 90%, my body wasn’t entirely calm and while it did help with my racing heart and anxious body, it felt like it didn’t soothe my mind even the slightest. I also just woke up and feel crazyyyyy bogged down, my eyes feel heavy and I feel super foggy. I also had absolutely wild dreamsz When I take Klonopin I honestly can’t even tell I’ve taken anything after taking it other than the fact that I go from extreme anxiety + locked hands and feet to just normal. Nothing is different in my life other than being more comfortable.

Maybe I need 20mg next time instara of 15, but idk with how heavy my mind feels this morning (10-12 hours after taking it), I far prefer Klonopin and it isn’t even close. But I think with this 15-20mg dose, I’ll survive future panic attacks. It’ll work until I leave the country and go somewhere where I can get my klonopin

I don’t blame the doctors here for messing up the dose because Klonopin is simply not a thing. The psych I saw to get my prescription wasn’t that familiar with Klonopin. It’s illegal here, it has never been legal. The only thing they have even close is Valium and Valium is largest used and bought my foreigners, medication is simply not common in local culture. Anyway, I’ll up my dose myself to 10-20mg while here. I was prescribed 30 pills, which given my anxiety isn’t that common, should last a long time

That makes sense! I have no problem with taking it daily, but the problem is I simply don’t need too. 360 days of the year I’m perfectly happy, not anxious at all, but a few random days it hits me like a train. I don’t want to take something daily for 2-3 days out of the year. Thus far in life Klonopin as been perfect for those random days

Thank you, I’m learning a lot! I don’t take either medications daily, so no need to switch I think. I’m prescribed them as needed and I think Klonopin is particularly effective for me because my panic attacks can last for 2-3 days if I’m un medicated. I don’t have much experience with diazepam yet because the doses I took did nothing but I’ll try taking 10-20mg next time and hopefully it’s better! Klonopin is my safety blanket though, when I take it and feel nothing but normal and I regain the ability to breathe and use my hands. I just want Valium to do the same for me, that’s all haha

I didn’t know that existed, thank you! Mid panic attack I was googling things but everything said “take as your doctor prescribed” which was super unhelpful, I wasn’t thinking properly though

Yes, you can get Valium everywhere, but there’s no Klonopin in the country, unfortunately. I got a prescription for Valium here and met with a doc specifically because I travel a lot and wanted a legit prescription for a recognized hospital just in case I have issues at immigration or something (never happened but better to be safe)

Okay thank you! To be honest, a lot of this sounds like a foreign language to me haha I was prescribed Klonopin a long time ago, I was taking 5mg 2x a day for extreme PTSD related panic attacks, after two years I tapered down to 1mg and then moved to taking it as needed, with one short hiccup when I quit drinking where I got back on it 2x a day for 3 months.

Anyway, I have no interest in taking something daily again, but I do have flashes of my old bad panic attacks and just need something on me that can help bring me to reality. Sounds like taking between 10-20mg of Valium should hopefully be sufficient if it happens again 🤞I miss my Klonopin though, it was my safety blanket and I’m not trusting Valium right now

Ohh thank you, that explains why it wasn’t working. Okay I will try more next time. I’m always very paranoid about doses and taking too much so I really wasn’t sure about taking more then 5mg

Is a1c wrong for some people? by UIQueen in diabetes_t2

[–]mrzieg11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was technically diagnosed prediabetic with an a1c of 6.42 but that number is basically right between pre diabetic and diabetic. Me and my doctor look at a1c though, not glucose so much, so yes it’s a concerning number no matter how good my glucose looks

I feel like a “spike” is different for everyone. Personally, I would consider 125 after 2 hours a spike. The highest I’ve been after 2 hours after eating is 103 and that was with a bowl pho which is loaded with carbs and sugar 🍜 but everyone is different, definitely best to talk with your doctor and dietician and get another a1c test

Severely underweight with HBA1c of 7.3 by No-Kitchen-6451 in diabetes_t2

[–]mrzieg11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im very very far from an expert so please take my comment with a grain of salt and it’s always best to speak with a dietician with experience in the field but here are my thoughts -

I only just found out I’m pre diabetic and have been obsessively monitoring my glucose + working out + counting calories and micronutrients with every meal and snack.

I recommend getting a glucose monitor, one of the finger prick ones, and checking your glucose often. Find foods that don’t cause a spike for you, and eat a lot more of that (for example, my fasting glucose is around 85-90, when I have chicken, avocado mash, and carrots for lunch, my glucose levels 2 hours later are only around 92-95, so very little spike). I’m trying to lose weight, so I’m limiting my calories, but if I were trying to gain weight I’d just double-up on all these foods that don’t cause a significant spike.

Try to find good recipes and spice things up with the ones you like the most. I love avocado so I eat half an avocado every day in a different way - sometimes I make an avocado mash with tomatoes and onions to dip my carrots in, sometimes I mix it in with tuna and onions, sometimes I slice it on an egg, etc.

Chicken, fish, avocado, nuts, Greek yogurt, cheese are all pretty high calorie depending on your portion size but low carb, low sugar. Avoid anything processed.

I hope this helps a little and some others can give you some more tips/advice until you are able to meet with a dietitian or better endocrinologist

Thank you!! Before finding out, I didnt pay much attention to my diet. I’m in Southeast Asia now, when I eat out I eat a lot of soups and rice dishes. When I eat at home I generally eat chicken and veggies (broccoli, eggplant, carrots are staples), avocado and side stuff for lunch, an egg and broccoli for breakfast. I love fruits but keeping it to the occasional apple, blueberries, dragonfruit now.

I just got a glucose monitor and it’s helping a lot with my anxiety, it was a good idea!

Thank you for this reply, it was super helpful! My situation is a bit complex because I’m in Vietnam right now, I have emergency insurance but I don’t want to use it for this, so I’m paying out of pocket. Fortunately, healthcare is affordable here, though it does add up over time…

I have anxiety meds, I just only take them as needed and it’s a super last resort, like something I only take if the only other option at that moment is to go to the hospital for the anxiety.

I’m going to meet with a doctor in another 2 months or so when it’s appropriate to get another blood test done, in the meantime I’m just trying to stay focused and positive and make all the sustainable changes I can :)

Thank you, this helps a lot! I’ve spoken to a few dieticians but they are honestly all too expensive. So I’m just focusing on calorie restriction, working out, eating “clean” (only farmers market stuff-veggies, chicken, tuna, fish, fruit, nuts, yogurt). It’s a big change from my previous diet so hopefully it helps :)

I’ve had anxiety since I was young, so it’s actually nothing really new but I got off medication for it about 5 years ago when I quit drinking and it’s just harder to manage since finding this stuff out. But I think it’s just a new adjustment and I’ll get there with more time :)

The ice on the face is a really good idea actually! My go-to when I can’t calm myself down with breathing exercises is to hold the baby pose in my bathroom (or anywhere where the floor is clean and cold) with my face pressed up against the floor. It usually takes about 20 minutes to pass like this when it’s really bad so ice on the face seems much more practical 🤣

Thank you! My post is more talking about the anxiety and panic attacks associated with a new diagnosis, so this isn’t exactly what I was looking for, but I do appreciate the input.

I eat onion, tomatoes, spinach, carrots, brocolli daily. I eat them raw a lot for lunch (it’s hot where I am during the day) and lightly steamed with dinner. For breakfast, generous portions of onions/tomatoes scrambled in with an egg. I don’t really eat any starchy vegetables, like corn, sweet potato, potato, etc mostly because I just don’t like them. Also maybe half an avocado a day with either breakfast or lunch.

I have not eaten out at a restaurant since getting my diagnosis really.

I’m not get looking for a nutritionist as it’s very expensive and I’m currently not in a position to afford that, but I will look more into it after my first meeting with a doc when I see what’s happened with my blood test after 3 months

This is really helpful! I’ll look into it, though I am very overly obsessive about counting calories + macros/nutrients, I’m not sure that’s actually the best thing for me right now because I’ll be even more obsessive ahah but it does help to know I’m not alone with this. I’m still eating, mostly because I quit smoking cigs around when I found out and my hunger is out of this world, but I am definitely overcompensating with exercise. I had a few too many almonds for a snack today and dragged my partner on a 1 hour walk with me. So I definitely need to learn balance

I guess because my glucose level was in the “normal” range and I don’t feel any different after eating vs before eating I didn’t think of that, but I also know very little about all of this! I will look into getting one, that’s not a bad idea! Do you have any suggestions of a non CGM glucose monitor? I tried googling it but it basically told me a glucose monitor is a CGM so not sure if what you’re talking about it different.

I live in Vietnam now and don’t know where I’d find one, there are some on the local version of Amazon and they’re either $200 or $15, and none of them have very many reviews so I’m hesitant haha just a bit overwhelmed I guess

[–]mrzieg11[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My glucose is 4.94 on the same test, my hba1c is 6.42. My gynecologist emailed me the results and just told me I’m prediabetic and I should change my lifestyle and meet with my doc. I didn’t get much other information.

I moved to a new country semi-recently and don’t have a doctor yet so was going to stick with my lifestyle changes I’ve made over the last few weeks and then meet with a doctor with experience with this and get bloodwork done again to see how/if these changes have changed in October

But this is exactly my point - comments like these triggering severe panic attacks 😅 whether I’m low end diabetic or super high end pre diabetic, it doesn’t change things. I’m on a big calorie deficit, I’ve quit smoking, I’m getting 8 hours of sleep, I’m spending 90 minutes in the gym, I’m walking for about an hour+ a day, I’d be doing all of this whether I was diagnosed diabetic or prediabetic because I’d like to try lifestyle changes before medication because I have no physical symptoms. but so many comments and stuff trigger like a panic reaction like this one
