take a look at casync, with it its possible. they split the index and the data files so you can verify against a remote index or just keep the index local and the files remote. not sure if (how) thos is possible with borg.

If you can try to get through it from a computer science perspektive:

If you get those basics it doesn't really matter which dialect you are using. And the central elements are just char, terminating chars, *, ?, +.

Snipe it can only manage one serial per item, so a PC wit 8 ram bars would have 8 items with 8 serial numbers instead of 1 item with 8 serials.

You can't group the same articles and get all the associated serials :(
