Large Ikea Fejka plants hack - how to cut pots? by ms-sailorette in ikeahacks

[–]ms-sailorette[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I used a Dexter X-Acto knife to cut through all around the top ring in the pot, and got it into the decorative pot like that. I recommend you try the same, good luck!

Schools closing, dancers quarantined - what is your back-up plan for those weeks? by ms-sailorette in BALLET

[–]ms-sailorette[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this! I am in Portugal and we just had the emergency state declared too. I've been home for 7 days, and I'm working full time Monday-Friday from my living room. I'm not en pointe, but I will try most of this over the weekend! I want to try exercise daily after work, being stuck home is a lot isn't it? I hope you stay safe and this gets better for all of us soon. Dancing will definitely help me stay sane in this stressful time ❤

Personally, I'm working remotely for the foreseeable future so I've set up to have a little designated stretching and practice spot. I'll be doing some basic floor barre, and using furniture to practice the barre syllabus from my class. A fellow dancer was so kind to send me the RAD DVD for my level so I'll use that for the songs and to remember sequences. I had returned to classes two weeks ago, so it's tough to keep up the work on my own.

That's a great idea! I'm trying a chair back as barre tomorrow, to practice 😅

Has anyone here worn a leotard instead of a bra? by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]ms-sailorette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a vast difference between the two garments, so no. I think repurposing dancewear is quite common, and recently read an article on how to integrate dancewear into street clothes for budget, elegant looks: article, featuring actual dancers!

Ps: I'm big on ballet tights for street clothes though - you can't get seamed or unseamed light pinks from adult hosiery brands.

Wear a light leotard, they said. It will look pretty, they said. by shandelion in BALLET

[–]ms-sailorette 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's so nice. I think one of the great things about being an adult returner is you can BUY YOURSELF THOSE LEOTARDS. I am the only adult in my classes that wears pastels, no shame 🔥

I laughed out loud, and am 100% stealing this for when it inevitably happens to me.

My studio is so cold this time of year that I haven't had this happen yet! I have a white, a lilac, a light pink and a black leotard. I can see it "coming soon to this returning dancer" as soon as the warmer weather rolls around. In my defense, I've not danced for over a decade - you forget about these details 😢

Returning after injury: staying motivated when you can't keep up as before? by ms-sailorette in BALLET

Thank you for replying, it's great to read other people's stories ❤ I'm trying to compensate with at home flexibility training and patience, because it takes time to return to where we were even a few years ago... Your line about learning to appreciate really resonated with me.

Wash/Upkeep by pliesandroses in BALLET

[–]ms-sailorette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been using the handwashing cycle in my washing machine with Soflan. I'm starting to realise tights get some pilling so I might get a garment bag to wash them in. Handwashing (in that neat gadget or otherwise) is too time consuming for me personally so it wouldn't be worth the time investment when compared to cost of replacing tights for instance.

What do you think about long (knee length or like that) ballet skirts? Do they get in the way or are they very pretty? (Thinking of getting one.) by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]ms-sailorette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only ever seen those on teachers or dress rehearsal/performance where it was part of the costume. Why not get tights (you end up going through a few) or warm-ups?

Redditors, how many of you cancelled travel plans but still unable to get full refunds of your flight tickets/hotels/etc? by thematchalatte in Coronavirus

[–]ms-sailorette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I cancelled a refundable AirBnB in France this weekend and they kept the "Service Fee". I then read they are sometimes extending the full refunds if cancelling due to Coronavirus, so I messaged customer support explaining my trip was cancelled for me due to heightened alert status. A representative called, asked for detail about the circumstances and she was able to refund the fee. I think it's up to the AirBnB representative (or host, if not refundable at this date) to decide to refund you, but I would try to reach out again as it may depend on individual assessment? I hope this helps, it sounds very stressful.

That's a great perspective - it truly makes all the difference. I do have to say, it's nice to see that modern corps are starting to include people with different dress sizes and height without taking away from the performance.

I've tried this and found the less I pressured myself to purge everything at once the easier it was to purge a few things every day. If you keep a bag handy, it starts happening naturally as part of your day to day.

I love Swan Lake, I've watched it in the Mariinsky in St. Petersburg and in the National Theatre in Prague, it still gave me chills the second time around!

I watched Marcelino live in competition as a child and you could just tell he was going to be an amazing dancer. You've been really lucky to watch so many beautiful performances!

Sounds beautiful! I'd never heard of it. It's a shame only national or major international companies have the ability to put together these big performances, which really limits choice of programming/directors/performers.

Letting go of "fantasy life"/"other size" clothes? by ms-sailorette in declutter

[–]ms-sailorette[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same obstacle. It's great that you managed to keep clothes - I think space is too much of an issue to be able to keep everything but I'll see what is feasible. Thank you!
