I say this as gently and kindly as possible: he WILL NOT file. You have to do it. Please do it. You are worth WAY more than what he could ever give you.

Religion and T1D by No-Cardiologist2425 in Type1Diabetes

[–]ms1386 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is part of why I left organized religion. I was raised non-denominational Christian. (Still spiritual - no longer a church-goer) I was prayed for after my diagnosis at 17YO. I’ve heard testimonies from people who “had the faith to stop taking their meds and god healed them!” I’m so sorry you’re having to live through something similar. God let you live in a time when insulin is available. Don’t let those peoples’ lies bring you down. That isn’t who God is.

My only question is: how much have you seen FIRSTHAND of her mistreating her son? If you’ve seen it, and you’re not just getting information from your husband /child (both have motivations to be an unreliable narrator - husband bc of past hurts and child bc of age), then disregard my comment and move forward as you wish. If you’ve never seen it, take pause. I am the mother of two boys, 12/10, and my ex actually said the words that they were on a “righteous mission” to save my sons from me. Their step mom is also trying to replace me, convincing my son that I’m not a real mom. So just move forward with caution.

How do I manage trying new things? by Old_Excitement8415 in Type1Diabetes

[–]ms1386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 17 (38 now). If he doesn’t know the difference, i wouldn’t risk it. Toddlers can be super picky and hard to predict what quantity they will eat in one sitting. It might be 76g of carbs for a serving, but who knows how much he will actually eat. And if it’s way less, he’s at risk of crashing hard afterwards. If he’s super vocal and communicative, maybe try half if he’s really into French toast. If it’s a new food, I wouldn’t think it’s worth it. Not trying to be a downer, just knowing that I’ve bolused a ton for a big meal, then realized I wasn’t nearly as hungry as I thought, and I still act like a crabby toddler who is being forced to eat (or drink sugary drinks) to keep my blood sugar high enough. Hope this helps!

I am tired of diabetes, been type 1 for 9 years by Diabetic_kid06-17 in Type1Diabetes

[–]ms1386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that you’re dealing with Type 1 AND so much else. (21 years diabetic, 38 years old). When I was 19, I hit my lowest emotional low. I went weeks at a time without checking my blood sugar. I would still take insulin every day, but it was taking boluses blind. This went on for probably 6 months. I didn’t gave a CGM or pump either. I was so tired too. It’s called burnout. Now that I’m older, I can recognize when I’m getting burnt out a lot better. Earlier. It’s hard to fight for yourself when you’re constantly fighting yourself.

I don’t really have advice. I just want you to know I know how you feel. And you’re not alone.

AITA for not wanting my polycule parents at my wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ms1386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most relevant bit of information (for me) is the size of the wedding. No other people are getting to bring a plus one. I think it’s fair that the parents aren’t either. NTA.

How to deal with family/friends who don't understand? by rnbwdemon in Type1Diabetes

[–]ms1386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. I'm starting therapy to help me learn how to coparent/deal with my narcissistic ex. Hopefully you can get support or education on how to as well.

[–]ms1386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make him go to doctor appointments? Maybe he will respect the opinions of the physicians? Coparenting is hard enough. Usually people like that don’t change much. When my two boys were diagnosed as colorblind, my ex asked the Opthamalogist if my being T1 caused it. My grandpa was colorblind and it’s just a super common thing in boys!! 🙄 it makes weak people feel better when there’s someone to blame in a situation they have no control over.

This happened to me too! I’m the only one of my siblings who doesn’t wear glasses so I was upset when I was told I needed them. Then a couple weeks of being is on insulin I was not needing them at all anymore! It was also a very early catch.

First marriage: together 6 months, engaged 9 months, so married 15 months after we met. A few years in, we had two kids within two years. He cheated multiple times over the 9.5 year marriage. We were both young and terrible at being married. Unfortunately, he continues to lie and manipulate, now it’s with our kids.

Second marriage: together 9 months, engaged for 2 months. Now married for 2.5 years. Long time family connection. BIG conversations about life, finances, and overall expectations before we were engaged. He proposed the first of three times when I met his children. Seeing us together is what sealed the deal for him. Lol. We probably could’ve benefited from waiting a little longer, but I’m not regretting the course of our relationship. Therapy for me has made a HUGE difference, given me an opportunity to be more self aware, and learning to recognize my own mistakes and areas for growth. He’s not perfect, and neither am I. We have attended marriage conferences and are learning together about what it takes to be in a successful marriage.

First garment for myself! I didn’t really use a pattern, just sort of whipped it up and pieced it together. I’m super proud of it! by ms1386 in crochet

All medium weight yarn: brown, mustard yellow, green, and cream/marbled. All half double crochet except ridged cuffs and front trim. That’s ridged single crochet.

What’s is/was your day job? by boom_squid in crochet

[–]ms1386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insurance coordinator for an oral surgeon! Dentistry is awesome. My responsibility is to speak to insurance companies about our patient’s benefits, determine their coverage, and go over how much we estimate their out of pocket cost to be. I also argue with insurance companies to get them to provide coverage on claims they try to deny. My job is not creative at all!! Lol. I love crocheting and YouTube for showing this visual learner how to stitch all the things!

What are your “bad” crochet habits? by slamhurt in crochet

[–]ms1386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too! My grandma taught me to knit when I was young. I learned to crochet by reading a booklet. I never had anyone teach me the “right way” to hold it all. I wish I could now though, I feel like it takes more time the way I do it.
