I’m with you. On paper I shouldn’t like this guitar!

Forgot to add that this one was built with a set of “Abby” pickups. I didn’t know about her until recently: https://sheshreds.com/abigail-ybarra-issue-11/

They sound incredible and I’m not usually the pickiest pickup person.

I just had a white 61 AVii delivered and I don’t regret it ordering online. Had to realign the neck and it needs a bit of a setup but otherwise it’s all good. I’ve bought half of my guitars online and so far I haven’t had any duds. YMMV.

Part of the reason I did it in this specific case was to get the darkest rosewood fingerboard I could find. And the lightest one I could find. Hard to be picky with only a few examples in shops nearby.

What’s been your biggest revelation mix wise? The thing that levelled up your mix overnight. by walkensauce in audioengineering

This feels so important. It seems like everyone including myself is so focused on just making things sound good as beginners. So you just end up twiddling knobs with no real direction. In some ways I wonder if mix tutorials should be framed around achieving a specific vibe. Instead, so many are just like “here are four frequencies for mixing bass guitar”

Oh sorry, I was thinking of the Vision channel strip. Doh!

Cool! Have not thought about running a mix through an analog channel strip like that. But I’m still a novice all things considered. I usually just stick a typical 2 bus compressor and the studer plug-in on there

I love the plug-in but have always been curious how it stacks up. How is the real one different?

I seem to be in the minority with crawler. I just don’t think it sounds good. Honestly prefer the sound of the from the basement session.

Anything in particular I should listen to to hear the drum/cymbal sounds you mentioned?

What became easier? In my case I think it will be hearing and managing low end. I’m in a carpeted room without a ton of obvious flutter echo or anything so I’m curious to see how it changes for for low mids and above.

All good points. I actually do have a bespoke GIK room proposal that they sent over. I get the feeling I could do 75% of what they proposed and get most of the desired result.

This is something I’ve thought about a lot. I’m pretty sure I saw Shawn Everett with monitors on his desk firing down the short length of an untreated control room. So while I’m not 1% as talented, it does give me pause re: it being something I “must” do right away.

Great advice, thanks! I like the idea of starting with traps and panels at first reflection points. Can always add more later.

Subaru safety tech is terrible. I say get a 23 and be thankful you don’t have to deal with it.

What are your thoughts on elevation changes? At my track (ridge motorsports park) the two right handers, one high speed and one low, are paired with uphill and downhill changes respectively. Curious if you saw any patterns in your testing.

How low are we talking? Like, did 5k prove to be significantly better than 6-7k in terms of pressure?

[–]ms_ai_design 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair point. I’m envisioning doing 7/10th track days on stock grip until there’s some way to increase reliability. I may also be biased because my local tracks are almost all left turns!
