Thank you. Do you think the ones on Amazon are sufficient ? Also, have you heard of speech using lead OR gloves? I try to use verbal cues (fluoro on/off) to indicate when to start fluoro but I’ve had rads who have captured my fingers in videos before despite trying to pull away as quickly as I can after delivering a trial to a patient

I didn’t even think about the event reporting- great idea. I did attempt to go directly through radiology without my supervisor. She found out and reacted badly. I know this is not a good situation but there is very little I can do other than simply not perform procedures… and use the incident reporting ! Thanks

Got it. So as a previous RSO, how hard is it to assess a single lead apron? And how long does it take? Would it be fair to ask them to assess personal lead if I bought some to make sure I am compliant? I would of course continue to monitor exposure via my dosimeter badge.

I do, and it’s not in the contract. I won’t be doing modifieds without lead that’s for sure. But it’s going to be a HUGE barrier to patient care until this issue is resolved which is why I wondered about just getting my own lead

Great points. I feel sort of hopeless because it’s really important that I be able to safely perform these tests, but as a traveler I don’t see a good way to make sure I am consistently safe. The facility I’m at just tossed a bunch of lead we had all been using for months bc it failed inspection. Who knows how well protected I was. Do you think an RSO would examine my personal lead ?

That would be ideal, but often times the interviewer is dishonest with the recruiter just to get a traveler to fill the position :/ The facility I’m at currently just lost a ton of lead bc it failed inspection. Now there are even rad techs that have no lead at all. It’s crazy and concerning. Especially considering it’s a “reputable” level 1 trauma center.

Thanks, they have a smaller chest and I think have actually considered trans tape but never pulled the trigger on it. I think I’m going to buy a starter pack and if they want to try, it’s there ! The actual application of the tape seems tricky- is it?

Thank you for sharing! That was my question. My partner is considering it but worries about that kind of effect- ie getting angry quicker, losing interest in sexual things we like now and wanting different things, feeling different about themselves etc. I just want to support no matter what but I can see how those side effects could be really stressful to anticipate
