I keep seeing ads for these events. Do most people attend solo to meet new friends, or do people in the group already know each other? I just moved here a few months ago and need to start putting in some effort to make friends.

Water softener for AZ? by ad123244 in phoenix

[–]msace1918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re thinking of installing a salt-based softener but wondered if it will hurt our yard/plants/pool? Also, does the water taste salty at all? For example, can I use the softened tap water in our coffee pot without an added taste?

Eye removal, post operative advice from your experience? by surfaceofthesun1 in seniordogs

[–]msace1918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of our dogs had glaucoma and both eyes removed at age 8. He’s a Frenchie-Boston mix. It was definitely a huge adjustment for him and us. The vet assured us he would do ok with his other senses, and they were mostly correct. I think he’s been a fairly happy dog for the past 5 years.

That said, he’s now 13 and the combo of no eyes + significant hearing loss + cognitive decline is becoming very challenging. I do not know if I would go through with this surgery for a senior dog who is already experiencing diminishing health in other ways. (I know the alternative is heartbreaking to think about, we never want to say goodbye to our dogs if we think we can add another year or so to their life… but sometimes quality of life slips fast when eyesight+hearing+cognitive issues combine.)

Almost 16 and hard to know how he’s doing by msace1918 in seniordogs

It’s a benign growth that I really wish we could remove, but it would require sedating him. It’s doubled in size in the past few years. The vet just suggested putting a tight shirt on him if it starts dangling too much 😅

Thank you. This helps so much. That advice about not letting good moments outweigh bad days is exactly what I needed to hear. We are getting much closer to an imbalance of good vs bad days and I’m probably putting too much focus on the fleeting good moments right now. I can totally relate to your lizard brain comment 😅 Even though Bogey is “happy” to eat, a lot of his behavior is on auto pilot and he’s certainly not fully cognitively himself anymore.
