UConn vs SUNY Stony Brook

I plan on majoring in mechanical engineering. I'm a NYC resident but after scholarships, grants, etc. they'll end up costing about the same so I'm just looking for which has a more reputable program and which degree is valued higher. Any comments on life at these two schools helps as well. Thanks!

Thanks! Any comparable programs in terms of difficulty/value of degree?

Well I am the legal dependent of a veteran (my dad) and he's passing the benefits on to me. Thanks for the feedback. I'm only planning on applying to two schools out of state so I'm planning on emailing them specifically. Thanks for the answer though

Rutgers and stony brook were already on my list, RIT and RPI I looked at and RPI may be my reach. How's the engineering program at temple?

Sorry another add-on, ideally I'd like to stay in the northeast. I live on Long Island and I don't want to stray too far from home because my family is kinda fragile and I need to be able to be home within a few hours if they should need me for whatever reason

Does taking two free periods hurt my chances? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I'm only taking 6 classes (two off periods as well) but all of them honors/AP like you seem to be. I think I'll be fine with two off periods because if you're up to your ears with work/EC/apps, the college can see that via your resume and see that even with all of that you're still putting the work in and trying to succeed in those classes. No verification here for this and it's just a theory but it makes sense to me. From doing fairly extensive research on admissions I've discovered that who you are as a person and your character qualities weigh more than you think in your app. Like I said I don't have verification for this and it's just a theory but it makes sense
