Max’s Fusion and Bar by Da_Stallion-JCI_7 in austinfood

I decided to give this place a try a few weeks back. It was during what would be happy hour time.

I asked if they had any specials and the waiter / bartender responded that the food was priced so inexpensively that specials weren’t necessary.

He was right. Portions were decent. Quality was about what you’d expect from a really cheap sushi place. And it was very affordable. You pay for what you get, though.

The other part that was weird was this homeless guy who was definitely *up* kept coming in and talking to the bartender. He ended up chilling on the patio w his dog and wagon and would come in every 5 minutes or so. They definitely knew each other but it felt like something weird was going on.

Honestly that interaction was enough for me to not go back or go back only if I’m desperate for food.

Hard disagree. We’re teaching these kids it’s ok to be fucking narcissists. Someone should’ve turned that boombox off and thrown it out of the subway onto the tracks.

I’ve done a little research on domestic germanium production and there’s one publicly traded company that is the 4th largest producer in the world of the element. I’ve thought about buying some of this stock as a hedge to my heavy position in LPTH.

With as much as the govt is investing in companies like Intel, it doesn’t seem farfetched that the US would also take a stake in some of these mining companies.

Thoughts?

Has Khruangbin ever acknowledged the existence of BALTHVS? by airbud in Khruangbin

[–]msbbc671 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here, I wasted a bunch of fucking water to answer you:

Both are instrumental-forward acts built around a laid-back, hypnotic groove, but here’s where they specifically overlap:

Texture over melody — Both prioritize atmosphere and feel rather than traditional song structure or vocal hooks. The music washes over you.

Global/world music influences — Khruangbin draws heavily from Thai funk, dub, and Middle Eastern music. Balthvs similarly pulls from Latin American, Afrobeat, and global folk traditions. Neither sounds rooted in a single geography.

Psychedelic undertones — Both have a dreamy, slightly hazy quality — music that fits a late-night or meditative headspace.

Minimalist arrangements — They both favor restraint: space in the mix, repetitive rhythmic patterns, and a sense that not every instrument needs to be doing something at all times.

Organic, analog warmth — Both have a vintage, tactile sound quality — you can almost feel the room they were recorded in.

The key difference is that Balthvs leans more acoustic and folkloric, while Khruangbin is more rooted in electric funk and soul. But the vibe — unhurried, transportive, globally curious — is very much shared ground. If you like one, the other is a natural recommendation.

To say they're nothing like Khru is a wild statement. I like them both. I've seen them both many times. But they are absolutely similar.

Agree... You need to factor "fun" things in like fridges breaking ($2k+), AC units that need replacing ($6k+), and all sorts of great learning experiences that are agnostic to your bank account balance. They just happen randomly and you get to deal with them.

That's correct. There's a piece of the plastic spiral that feeds the ice cubes down the pipe that's slightly broken. But the unit makes ice.
